Fred J. Haas, who was struck by lightning last Wednesday afternoon, and instantly killed, at his home between this place and Naponee, was laid at rest in the Naponee Cemetery Friday Afternoon, After funeral services had been held in Naponee by Rev. John Thomas of Bloomington M.E. Church. The remains were followed to the grave by a large number of friends, and relatives. The community feels a special sympathy of the bereaved ones who have recieven so sudden a blow at the hands of fate.
Fred John Haas was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, March 8, 1885. He landed in the United States, with his parents, in the spring of 1890, coming to Huntley the same year. He was married to Mary Cholotia Jonas Sept. 22, 1904. To them five children were born, Minnie May, 14; Clifford Andrew, 10; Albert Lewis, 4; Ruby Jane, 3; Henry Carl, 14 mos. He had made his home in and near Bloomington since his marriage. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church when a child, and united with the Methodist Church at 23 years. He died May 19, 1920. His father and mother had preceded him, and a brother was killed in France, while serving as a US soldier in the world war.
A brother, Will Haas, ob Beaver City, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Shippert, of Atwood, Kansas were present at the funeral.
