Obituary of Joel Andrew Jonas

Joel Andrew Jonas, son of Joel and Charlotte Jonas, was born in Pinhook, Shelby County, IN, June 13, 1854 and departed this life December 20, 1941 at the age of 87 years, six months and seven days.

He grew to manhood in Shelby county, IN and on December 26, 1880, was married to Nancy Jane Marsh, who preceded him in death on April 14, 1937. When a young man, he was baptized and united with the Methodist church. He, with his wife and two small children, came to Franklin county, NE in March 1884. He homesteaded the place on which he has resided until his death. Eight children were born to this union, John and Tommy preceding him in death. Those left to mourn his passing are Mrs. Mary Gunther, of Benkleman; Frank Jonas, Booneville, Ark.' Mrs. Emma Owens, Holyoke, CO; Barton Jonas, Beloit, KS' Mrs. hattie Schnuerle and Mrs. Amanda Thielen, Bloomington; 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great granddaughter; two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Amanda Williams of Shelbyville, IN and MRs. Mary Marsh, Naponee; besided nices, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted in the Congregational church in Naponee Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Wm. F. Haskins, of Rebuplican City, assisted by Rev. Friday of Macon. Burial was made beside his wife in the Naponee cemetery.
