Obituary

John William Drummond, who came to Smith County in 1879 and had been a prominent farmer of Martin township in the Reamsville community for sixty-three years, died at his home there last Friday. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the home with the Rev. Wm. J. Brown conducting the services. The burial services at the Clemens cemetery were in charge of the Reamsville lodge members. John William Drummond, son of Samuel and Sarah Vanlaw Drummond, was born March 17, 1860 in Prairie County, Ohio and passed away at his home August 6, 1943, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 18 days.

In 1866 his parents moved to near Richland in Keokuk County, Iowa, and in the fall of 1879 with a desire for a home of his own he came to Smith County, KS. Being too young to homestead he bought the relinquishment and established a permanent home. February 12, 1883 he was married to Clara E. VanFossen. She died October 12, 1884. On November 15, 1891 he was married to Addie Mae Craig to which union were born the two sons, Leslie and Walter. The mother departed this life on Dec. 13, 1898. leaving the care of these two little boys to the father which he did remarkably well and a credit to the community.

Mr. Drummond was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for over 40 years and held various offices of trust and responsibility in community activities to which he was a generous contributor both of his time and his substance. He was a real pioneer and all who knew him can testify as to his upright and fair dealings with all mankind. No night was too dark nor no day too stormy for him to help in sickness and death. He will be greatly missed in the Reamsville community where he had lived for 63 years.

Card of Thanks - We wish to express our sincere appreciation and many deep heartfelt thanks to the many neighbors and friends who helped our father during his illness; and for the beautiful floral offerings and the sympathy given during these sad hours.-Leslie and Walter Drummond.
