Undentified Norton Family Photos

 Unidentified Norton Family Photos

Found in a ca. 1890s Norton Family Photo Album

These photos are part of a large Victorian photo album I inherited from my paternal aunt.  Most of the photos were placed in the album unlabeled.  Several I recognized from other family photos, but the bulk of them were unknown. These photos are from the Missouri branch of the Norton family.

Unknown #1

This is a pair of photos, obviously that of a husband and wife, with the photo of the lady labeled on the back "Aunt Fannie". I suspect that this is not the name of the lady but to whom the photo is being sent to, as this album was put together by Fannie Thomas Norton. Photos are from the High and Rogers Studio of La Belle, Lewis Co., MO.

Note: This man is thought to be David Perry Norton, the twin of William Perry Norton.  If this assumption is correct, the lady is probably Susan Goben Norton, David's first wife; or possibly Mary C. Fellows Norton, his second wife (if photo was taken after Nov 1886).

This pair of photos are most obviously that of a husband and wife.  They are from the Gilhousen Studio of Kahoka, Clark Co., MO.  These photos were apparently mailed back to Grant Co., KY, one on top of the other, and were slightly damaged in route by bending of the letter or package.  They both have an identical crease (bend) in the photo and its cardboard mounting.

Note: This man is thought to be William Perry Norton, the twin of David Pryor Norton.  If this assumption is correct, then the lady will be Elnora Theresa Reed Norton, his wife.

Unknown #3

This is a family photo from the studio of Parcell's Galleries of Memphis, Scotland Co., MO.  G.M. Hennon, Operator.

Note: This family is thought to be that of John James Norton.  The identities of those is the photo are unknown, but it is speculated that the bearded man is John James Norton and the standing lady in the middle is Lauretta Perrin Barker Norton, his wife.

Unknown #4

This photo is of two young children whose identity is unknown. The studio is that of J.R. High, Photographer, of Canton, Lewis Co., MO.

Unknown #5

This photo is that of man and woman, thought to be husband and wife.  The woman is obviously younger than the man.  It is possible that the woman is his daughter, but the pose is typical of the times for husband and wife. From the studios of J. M. Simington, Photographer, Memphis, Scotland Co., MO.
