The Berreyesa Family in the California Missions

The Berreyesa Family in the California Missions

The Berreyesa Family has been in California since the founding of San Francisco, California. Because they have been here so long, the Berreyesa family has had to have many of their sacramental ceremonies performed in the many missions of Alta California. Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores) and Mission Santa Clara de Asís are the two missions where the Berreyesa family is most found. Other missions where the Berreyesa family may be found include: Mission San José, Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, and Mission San Francisco Solano. These Mission records are vital to doing research on the Berreyesa family, as virtually no other records existed for birth, marriages, and deaths in early Alta California. These mission records can be found at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, though available to be sent out to one of its many Family History Centers throughout the U.S., the Bancroft Library, the Huntington Library, and of course, throughout the Archives of the many dioceses of California. Many parishes were founded after 1800, though most were about the 1850s. After these parishes were formed, it is more likely that the Berreyesa family will be found in the parishes instead of the missions.

Since there are so many parishes in northern California, I am asking for those who know of a parish where the Berreyesa family attended, to send me the name and city of the parish. This will help all Berreyesa Researchers to find the ancestors. Thanks! ~ The Berreyesa Researcher
