Beginning at two white oaks and a hickory sapling corner to Robert Tedford, With his line, 35 Deg, East 127 poles to a black oak on the bank of North River [Note: North River is now called Maury River] and corner to said Tedford Up several courses of the River from 412 poles, S 43 deg, West 160 poles to beginning. With all houses, buildings, orchards, ways, waters, water courses, profits, commodities, heriditaments, and appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises. Also includes remainder and remainder of rents, issues and profits. To have and to hold unto the said Solomon McCampbell and to his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns from the day before the date hereof for the term of one whole year. yielding and paying the rent of one peppercorn on Lady Day if demanded. He is enabled to take a grant and release.

John Manifee made a deed to two acres of land lying north of Beaver Creek to John Childress, Solomon McCampbell, Jeremiah Tindall, George Lucas, Daniel Yarnell, Michael Yarnell and Thomas Wilson trustees, for the purpose of building a meeting-house and camp-ground to be fee to all denominations. This was known as Bell’s Camp-ground, and was frequently used by the Methodists.

Witnesseth that the said William Berry for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds current of Kentucky in hand paid at & before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold & confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien convey & confirm unto the said John Berry and to his heirs and assigns forever one equal undivided moiety of a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county of Harrison on the south fork of Licking containing four hundred & fifty acres being the land and farm whereon the said John Berry now lives & bounded as follows

To wit Beginning at a beach & small sugar trees standing on the bank of the south fork, thence from sd fork So 37 West 84 poles to a black gum at the foot of the hill thence So 57 West 370 poles to a hickory & white oak near the old trace thence No 27 W 245 poles to a sugar tree & two white oaks in the head of the hollow thence north 57 E 250 poles to a sugar tree & black ash under a clift on the south bank of sd fork thence up the same with the several meanders thereof to the beginning which said bounds includes 600 acres 150 acres of which now belongs to the heirs and representatives of John Roland decd & laid off as follows (viz) Beginning at a white oak thence No 57 E 250 poles to a dogwood & hickory thence N 32 W 96 poles to a hickory & beach thence S 57 W 250 poles to a stake in the back line & with the same to the beginning

Sold by Jacob Zumwalt to the sd John Rowland decd in his lifetime which said tract of land of 450 acres as described was conveyed to John Berry & James Berry by Jacob Zumwalt by deed bearing date the 17th day of August 1799 And the said James Berry having since departed this life and the said William Berry being the heir at law of the sd James Berry doth hereby forever warrant and defend the title of the said moiety of 450 acres of land to the said John Berry & to his heirs, assigns forever against the claims and demands of himself and his heirs & all persons claiming under them against the claim or claims of Solomon McCampbell & his heirs or any person claiming under them but not from the claim or demand of any other person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my deal the date above written.

State of Tennessee, Knox County
On this 15th day of August 1832 personally appeared in open Court before me Samuel Cavell one of the Judges of law and equity in and for the State of Tennessee and for the first Judicial Cercuit in the County Court now sitting Solomon McCampbell a resident of said county and state in the county and state aforesaid aged seventy nine years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the act of congress passed June 7th 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following officers and served as herein stated.
He lived in Rockbridge County Virginia at which place in the Summer of 1776 as he believes he volunteered as a private under Capt. Alexander Telford there was no Col. we were stationed on Cave Creek to protect the frontier against the Indians. Served at that time three weeks and was honorably but verbelly discharged.
Again while living at the same place he thinks in the last of June or first of July 1776 volunteered under Capt. Charles Campbell in a Company of Volunteer Riflemen the number of the regiment and name of the Col. not recollected. Parade ground in Lexington and marched to Richmond thence to -----?--- River thence to Smithfield on James River thence to Caben Caint {?} on James’ River thence below Jamestown and then returned to Petersburgh. was there honourably but verbelly discharged treated to a barrell of rum and told we might go home. Served at the time three months.
Again while living at the same place he thinks in February or March 1781 he volunteered under Capt. Alexander Telford in a company of Riflement in Col. John Boyers Regiment. Rendezevoued at Col. Samuel McDowell. Marched to Chactattievile (?) then ranged through different parts of the County till we went into the neighborhood of richmond to --?- River Church. We were scarce of provision and was discharged honourably but verbelby. Served two weeks.
Again while living at the same place he thinks about the 19th of June 1781 he volunteered in a Company of drafted men under Capt. David Grey in Col. Samuel Lewis’ Regiment of Riflemen in Genl. Mulingburgh Brigade. Rendezevoued at Lexington. Marched to Richmond there joined the main army thence to parmenchy River and it lay there about two weeks then returned and marched to James’ River thence to James town ---?--- the ---?-- in the French B--?-. Thence to Williamsburgh thence into the neighbourhood of little York. Lay there till Cornwallace surrendered. he was hounorably but verbelby discharge. Served four months.
Again while living at the same place while he was serving the last tour of duty he rec’d a letter from his father stating that he was drafted for six months and in about five days after the last tour was out he joined his company in Richmond under Capt. Smith who commanded a regiment --?-- --?-- ---?--- ----?--- of November at which time he returned to Richmond and was honourably discharged which dischare was signed by Genl. Davis and is lost. He may be ---?--- as to the dates above mentioned but he is certain he served the full time three mentioned which amounts in all to nine months and five days.
He has no documentary evidence and he knows of no person, whose testimony he can procure, who can testify to his actual service. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity, except the present, and declares his name is not on the pension roll, of the agency of any state. Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year afforesaid.

Anderson residing in the same place, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Solomon McCampbell, who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration; that we believe him to be 79 years of age, that he is respected and believed in the neighbourhood where he now resides, to have been a soldier of the revolution and that we concur in and are do further certify that we have never heard the fact doubts or ---?--- the said Solomon McCampbell was a soldier in the Revolutionary War that ---?--. On the 6 day of April 1833, personally appeared before me Joseph M-----?-- an acting Justice of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in and for said County, Solomon McCampbell, a resident of said County and state in the said County of Knox and State of Tennessee who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following amendment to his declaration for a pension which declaration was made in the Circuit Court for said County and state bears date Augusta 15th 1832 and was numbered in the War Department No. 5986 and sent back for amendment. That he was born either in the County Down or County Entuim (sic) in Ireland on the 17th day of July 1753. He has a record of his age at home in his family bible. He thinks Genl. Washington was commander in chief at the seige of York and Genl. Layfayette and Barron Steuben both had a command at York. He thinks that Genl. Waine was wounded by one of his own sentinals at Jamestown at the time of the seige. He does not recollect the names of any other regular officers who were with the troops which he served nor the names or numbers of any continental or militia Regiments except what is stated in his former declaration and this amended one. He is acquainted in his present neighborhood with Joseph Meek, Esq., Robert M. Anderson Esq., Rev. Isaac Anderson, Col. James Anderson and Jonathan Douglass all of whom he believes would would testify that they believe him to be a man of verasity and that they believe he served as a soldier of the Revolution. Sworn to and submitted the day and year aforesaid before me.
