Notes for Robert Burgoyne:
One of the auditors to the Exchequer and a Commissioner appointed by
Henry VIII. His partner commissioner was John Scudamore of Holm
Lacy, Herefordshire. They removed the nuns from Wroxall Priory, the
Prioress Agnes Little was granted a pension. They also cleared the monks from
Bordesley Abbey, Redditch, Worcestershire, but most of
the assets disappeared within seven days, Robert and John were then
called before a Royal Commission in London to explain the loss, the outcome is
not known, but Robert was later appointed auditor of Bordesley Abbey by Henry
VIII.

Sir Roger was a life long friend of Sir Ralph Verney, he warned him that
the Parliament troops were about to raid his home Claydon House,
Buckinghamshire, now in the care of the National Trust. Sir Ralph fled to France
but returned after several years. A oil painting of Sir Roger Burgoyne hangs
(about 18x15 inchs) in Claydon House.

Notes for John (General) Burgoyne:
In his will, proved on August 22, 1792, he had left to Susan Caulfield
for herself and the education of their son John, the sum of £4,000. A codicil,
dated June 1, 1788, had added Maria, Caroline, and Edward, all "having
equal claims to his care and protection". But when the estate was examined,
and after the various creditors had made their claims, it was clear that John
Burgoyne had died, as he had lived for most of his life, in debt. He was
insolvent.
He was buried, as he had requested, in the North Cloister of the great
Westminster Abbey, at less expense than Lady Charlotte's internment, and they
had engraved on the coffin plate, "the Rt Hon John Burgoyne,
Lieutenant-General of His Majesty's Forces, Colonel of 4th regiment of Foot, and
one of His Majesty's most honorable Privy Council of the Kingdom of
Ireland".
