TOP GUN FARM

Welcome
to the
Top Gun Farm
Home Page

Top Gun Farm is located in the southcentral section of New Jersey. We're about 5 minutes southeast of Freehold and 10 minutes west of Asbury Park (home of "The BOSS"). Right in the middle of NJ horse country.

Up until ten years ago I was knee-deep in the horse poop myself. But I realized I wasn't getting any younger, and as I looked for a career change from my "real" job, the last thing I wanted to do was to muck stalls forever........ Soooo..... I put my emphasis on my other passion..... DOGS!!!! The horses are now gone and so most of the paddocks and barn have been converted to accomodate AGILITY.

SO WHAT IS AGILITY?? Dog agility is a timed event over a pre-determined course of obstacles that the dog must successfully complete (jumps, tunnels, A-Frame, seesaw, etc.), without any "hands on" guidance (no leashes, no collars) from the handler.  The size of the dog determines the height the dog is required to jump as well as the targeted course time (smaller dogs are given slightly greater time).

The similarities between competitive riding and dog agility are many -- walk and memorize the course, plan your strategy to complete the course (hopefully without refusals, run outs or jumps down), all within the required course time! I should point out that when I was showing horses I didn't get "eliminated" when my animal "eliminated" on the course!! And occasionally, I'll admit to missing the aid of a "bit" or some "leg"..... (I said OUT jump!!)

ROCKY, my first agility dog (Top Gun's Little Homer, MX, MXJ, AAD, NAC, NJC, NGC,CGC, TDI) is a 11 year-old Papillon who, during his first year of competition, earned 4 agility titles in a 7 month season! Do I sound like the proud parent???

SHERMAN, my second agility dog (Primavera's Tanks A Lot, MX, MXJ, AD) is a 7 year-old Papillion, who on occasion also picks up modeling assignments.

At any rate, Top Gun Farm offers AGILITY classes for all levels of dog handler, and we offer specific classes for large and small dogs. Classes are offered in group and/or private sessions. Training and handling is available for owners who want their dogs shown but may be incapable or not interested in doing the showing themselves.

This is where you come if you're serious about having fun with your dog. Agility is a exciting sport - not only for the human, but for the dogs as well.
