Shepherd Richard Willcutt was known in his young life as "Rich". Then as an older man he became known as "S.R."... Jack of all trades, he worked as a general laborer in the Sawmills, Coal Mines, and Logging industry in Fayette and Walker Counties of Alabama. Peddling was another occupation. He was known to make a few quarts of Whiskey too. At one time He owned a Big White Mule that he named "Foxy". The Mule would walk sideways, and it looked like it was doing the "Fox Trot." Another interesting fact is S.R.'s 3rd wife was Katie Gurganus, daughter of Ellen Blackston Gurganus. Sister of Marion Kyle Blackston, husband of S.R.'s middle daughter, Laura Mae Willcutt.
