André Blondel (X1883) was the general Inspector of the department of civil engineering.  Réputé Physicien, he was the inventor of the l'oscillographe in 1893, this was a device allowing the graphic study of alternating currents. A hystérésimètre and a wattmètre carry his name.  The first one, it explains mathematically the effect of the inertia in the placement some moveable alternators; he is equally the author of works on the asynchrones motors, the electric traction, the sonorous goniométrie.  He was one of the pioneers of the transportation of the electricity to long distance and to very high tension.  With the Harlé competition d'Emile and of Mahl, he proposed the establishment of a very important hydroelectric factory in Génissiat.  He received the medal of the Franklin Institute, the Montefiore award and Kelvin Lord award, and the Faraday medal.  At last, he became  a member of the academy of sciences in 1913, as well as the corresponding academy of Holy-Pétersbourg sciences in 1932.
