#20 Baltimore Street East & West Designated By Red Circles
The above map is a 'section' of an 1890 map of Baltimore City. The red dot on the left indicates where #20 West Baltimore Street was in 1890 and the red dot on the right shows where #20 East Baltimore Street was in 1890.
The above same map as the 'section' map only here it is posted in it's entirety. You may right click the map and save it to disk then open it with any image editor to expand it at will for closer inspection.
Sansborn Fire Insurance Company Map of 1890
1822 Map of Baltimore City
If #20 East Baltimore is the correct address for our ancestors the lane immediately behind their residence was called "Bank Lane" and it is the same in all four maps. That may be an indication that the area around there changed very little in the 75 years or so that is represented in these maps. That would most certainly make it appear that the government offices surrounding the addresses shown in 1890 may have also been in the same locations in 1822.
Ms. Cook of the Library of Congress has kindly provided the two lower maps as a courtesy of the United States Government. She advises that she believes that in all likelihood the street names and buildings in the 1822 map would be the same in the later year of 1826 when we know that Jean Marie and his family were in Baltimore City.
Note: All of the above Maps may be saved to your local disk and examined closely!
