Tate Blondell's Home Page
Tate Blondell
Tate Blondell was the son of James S. Blondell and the grandson of Theodore
Alexander Blondel. The following article appeared in a local newspaper
that circulated in Wise County Virginia. We believe this occurred
about ten to fifteen years after the time period that Tate's uncle, Freeman
White Blondell was the mayor of Appalachia, Virginia. The article
describes how Tate was enlisted to help the local sheriff in the sheriff's
defense of the jail and an African American who was imprisoned there.
A lynch mob had formed and was attempting to dynamite the jail to gain
access to the prisoner. Tate Blondell lost his life that night but was
successful
in protecting the prisoner's life.
The mob was stopped.
