William H.
Cann, aged 48 years, foreman of the blacksmith department of the National
Transit Shops here for the past three years, died at
his home on Main Street, of Bright’s Disease at 11:30 AM Saturday.
The deceased was born in Topsham, Devonshire, England, March 12, 1845,
and came to this country in 1869, locating in New York City for one year.
From there he
moved to Meadville, where he was employed by the Phoenix Iron Works for ten
years. He returned to England on a
visit of three years duration, and on his return
located at Jamestown, Ohio. From
there he went to Kendall Creek and worked for the National Transit in their shops there. He
was afterward transferred here. During
his stay here he made many friends, was valued by his
employers and respected and loved by his shop mates.
He was a member of Trinity M.E. Church, and a member in good standing of
Kendall Creek Lodge, A.O.U.W.
He is survived by
his wife and the following children: Annie E. Cann, Wm. A. Cann, John I. Cann,
George Cann, Charles Cann. His
brother, Samuel Cann, lives in Meadville.
The funeral services will be held at the
house on Main Street at 2:30 PM today and will be in charge of the members of
the A.O.U.W. Lodges of this city, who will attend the services in a body.
James Fisher of Kendall Creek Lodge, arrived here last evening as a
representative of that lodge, to attend the funeral services.
