Hi Betty,
I was wandering the net looking for information on people with whom I served
in the US Navy. One of the best officers I had the pleasure of serving under
was Percy Stuart Beaman. A search on his name led me to your site.
Your Home Page displays a link to a .WAV file that would play the ship's bell for a Commanding Officer arriving or departing the ship. Do you have anything other than this entry for Captain Beaman?
Now for my addition to your knowledge of Captain Beaman. My site is the Home Page for the USS Allen M. Sumner (DD-692) and includes extensive history of the ship from 1943 until 1974. Captain Beaman served as the Commanding Officer of the Sumner from 1966 until 1968. Included during this tour was our deployment to Vietnam for which Captain Beaman was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat 'V' for his service in this campaign. Included in the site is a brief biography of his service in the Navy, his picture and many other interesting items in the Ship's Logs, Sea Stories, etc. Note that as Commanding Office of the Sumner Captain Beaman at that time was as you indicate a CDR (Commander) in the Navy. Upon leaving the Sumner he was promoted to full Captain (CAPT or four striper) and then assumed command of the brand new ship - the USS Anchorage (LSD-36) which is still in commission today.
Another item which may or may not be of value - I found an entry via WWW3.SWITCHBOARD.COM for a Percy Stuart Beaman in Nevada. Our reunion association attempted contact by mail but received no response so I am unsure if this is indeed the same person. The uniqueness of the name and the listed number also has a women's at the same number with the identical name as Captain Beaman's wife?
Kind of long winded for a howdy message, but if you know anything more about Captain Beaman many of his shipmates aboard the Sumner would love to get in touch. We are having our annual reunion in Baton Rouge, LA next month and were really hoping we could find him.
Last but not least, our site address is
http://www.dd-692.com
<http://www.dd-692.com> and you will find the picture and bio
by following the hyperlinks THE SHIP CAPTAINS AND XO's. Additional data
is under THE SHIP DEPLOYMENTS VIETNAM, and there are other items throughout
the site.

along the way. John Thomas Beaman married my mother. Katherine Williams.
Thanks for any information you may be able to help me with. I think the earlier
families came from the Green county area or there abouts. My Aunt lives in
Wayne County now.
