In Cornish, Goonabarn means: [Goenan] downland [barrynn] little summit. In 1564 is was listed as Goenbaren.1

The 1838 Apportionment lists two Gonnabarne, one with just over 48 acres. Some of the field names: Rushy Park, Three Corner Plot, Great Meadow, Long Close, Rushy Moors, etc. The other listing for Gonnabarne consists of slightly over 9 acres. Back Meadow, Great Meadow, Down Park are some of the field names. Lady Ann Grenville owned the land. It appears there were at least three houses. Ocuppiers were Wm. Roberts, Joseph Tucker, John Mellow and perhaps others who worked for or rented from same.

In 1714-15 Mary Parken is listed with a yearly rate of 2 pounds as occupier of part of Gonabarne.
The other part is listed at a rate of 7 pounds and occupied by Jo. Blamn. 2
