1798 STANNARY LIST


To the Constable of the Parish of Saint Stephens Cornwall - to wit.
By virtue of an Order from Sir John Morshead, Baronet, Lord Warden of the Stannaries in and for the said County, unto me directed, you are hereby required to make out a fair and true List, in writing of all the Miners and Working Tinners usually, and at this Time dwelling within your Constablewick, between the Ages of fifteen and sixty years, distinguishing therein which of them are willing to engage themselves to be armed, arrayed, trained and exercised, for the Defence of the Realm, and which of them are willing to engage, in Cases of Emergency, either gratuitously, or for Hire, as Pioneers or Labourers, and such of them as by Reason of Infirmity are incapable of active Service, according for the Form hereunto ennexed: which List, so fairly made as aforesaid, you are hereby required to return to John Thomas ____? Vice Warden of the Stannaries aforesaid at the house of John Blight _____? the twenty-eighth day of April Ins? by Ten O Clock in the forenoon, Given under my Hand this 22 Day of April 1798. Joseph Pearse? High Constable N.B. Should the time allowed you not be sufficient to make complete returns of all the things required of you, You are not to omit the Names and ages of any Miners in your said Parish.
