BARGOTHA


In 127[7/9?] Tho: de Bargoythou was acting for William [-?-] odo - a minor (Assize Roll 17). In 1343 Tho: de Bargoythou is mentioned as Bailiff of Powder and as having [-?-] [?-?] [-?-] over a Jury (MD? 189). In 1301 a de[?] was seized by the King being the "jumentum" from which Thomas de Barqoctzo fell and was drowned. It was valued at 6d (Common Pleas 1301).

By a charter dated at Trewythosa 29 Sept 1329 Thomas de Bargoythou released to Symon de Trewythosa of an annual rent of 20 pounds issuing from his lands in Bargoythou (B.M. Add:MSS 19481). This Thomas de Bargathou, Bargoythou, or Bargouthou is a witness to Charters dated 1327, 1332, 1336, 1342, 1347.

By a charter dated at St Stephens on 3 July 1372 John de Bargothow en[-?-] Philip de Trewythosa of all his lands in the [-?-]ll of Bargothow with 2 corn and fulling mills is the same and a water course and the whole mul[-?-] of the mile. He uses as a seal - a coat of arms - achevzon between three stags (or goats?) heads (ibid 19505).

By another charter 24 June 1373 Trewithosa reconveyed all the premeses to John Bargothow (ibid 19506).

By a fine 1559 Tho: Rawlyn and Elizabeth his wife conveyed lands in Bergothow alias Bernegothowe in Saint Stevens in Branell and Trelulle in Gwendoron to John Beryll[?] esq. (III 57) In 1621 and 690 the owners of Benalleck in St Enoder enjoned[?] rights of common [?] for all t[?] and t[?]ing? in the waste called Burgowshow in St Stephens in Branell. (I 307) 1
