Henderson's history of St. Stephen in Brannel shows Wm. Yelland on the occupier's list of 1714-1715 at Higher Goverseath at a rate of 4 pounds. Yelland is also listed with half of Lulye's Goverseath at 2 pounds. Thos. Vercoe is shown with Lower Goverseath at 2 pounds and the other half of Lulye's at 2 pounds. A 1695 rate list of tenements (Henderson did not list any names) shows the place name of Goverseath.3
