TRETHULLAN

 4

In Cornish "tre" means farm or settlement. The rest is a personal name, Delon in Old Breton or Dylan in Old Welsh. 1

"In 1468 John Tretherff[?] Esq as Lord of the Manor of Burngolowe devised to Jo: Michell two holdings [?] John Jacobes' and Jo: Hoskyns' in the vill [will?] of Trethelan for 101 years at a rent of 16s and 8 mil to the manor. If this is Trethullian in St Stephens and not Tregonhenwyne in St Mewan it is not mentioned in subsequent extents of the Manor. For an account of the large earthwork in this estate see the Antiquities Book. In 1838 Trethullan belonged to Edward Coode of St. Austell". 2

"Cornish Serpentinous Rocks", by J.H. Collins, page 363, states Trethullan Castle is an ancient earthwork.
