THOMAS RICKARD - 1720


The Will of Thomas Rickard, Probated 6 May 1729, Archdeaconry of Cornwall

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Rickard of the parish of St.Stephens in Brannell in the county of Cornwall being (God be praised) of a sound and disposing mind and memory and enjoying a competency of health but taking to mind the certainty of death and his (mandate) and being feared of dying do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made by word of mouth or in writing.

IMPRIS I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping in and through the meritorious Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only Redeemer to inherit eternal life.

Item I give and devise to my eldest son John Rickard all that my messuage and tenements with all and singular Ch'appinfourse lying and being in the parish of St.Stephens in Brannell and now being in my possession to have and to hold the same and every part and parcell thereof unto my said son John Rickard his executors and administrators and assigns from the end of five years next after my decease for and during all the residue and remainder of the term or number of years which shall be then therein to terms and unexpiredd by virtue of the documented lease thereof if the Livor in the said lease named or either of them shall so long happen to live under the rent lessor various covenants conditions and exceptions in the said lease reserved and mentioned.

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Phillippa the wife of Jacob Whetter five pounds to be paid at the end of one year after my decease by my executor hereinafter named

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Rickard the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid her by my executor hereinafter named at the end of one year after my decease

All the rest of my goods and chattels rights credits not formerly given devised or bequeath-ed I hereby give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Deborah whom I make and ordain to be my whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament she defraying my funeral charges and paying all my debts and legacies in witness whereof I the said Thomas Rickard have set my hand to this my last will and testament this twentyfourth day of November Anno Domini 1720 Signed sealed and published

JOHN RICKARD - 1736


In the name of god amen, I John Rickard of Brannell Coombe in the parish of St.Stephens in Brannell in the county of Cornwall, Tynner, being of sound & perfect memory blessed be almighty god for the same doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say)

First I commend my soul to Almighty God that gave it me hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my mediator & redeemer to receive pardon for my sins and my body to be decently buried by my executrix hereafter named.

Secondly I give to my son Jonas Rickard one shilling

also I give unto my daughter Rebecca one shilling

also I give unto my son Francis one shilling

also I give unto my daughter in law Jane Rickard and her three children one shilling each.

Also I give unto my son in law John Mynard and his two children one shilling to each.

Lastly I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Phillippa all my estate messuages tenem(ents) stock goods chattles bills bonds money credits & accounts whatnot wherever they are and doe make and constitute & appoint her my whole & sole executrix of this my last will and testament and also revoking disannulling all former wills by me made whatsoever declaring ratifying confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand & seal this first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty six.

JONAS RICKARD - 1762


The Will of Jonas Rickard, Probated 11 Jun 1762, Archdeaconry of Cornwall

In the name of God Amen June the 8th 1761. I Jonas Rickard of the parish of St.Stephens in Brannell in the county of Cornwall being sick in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my soule into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent and Christian Burial at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned nothing doubting that at the General Resurrection I shall receive same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demisse and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Caroline twenty shillings to be paid her within one year after my decease.

Item I give and devise and bequeath all my messuages and tenements wheresoever the same are scituate living and being whereunto I am instituted together with all my goods and chattels bills bonds and ready money whatsoever and wheresoever the same is, unto my brother Francis Rickard, Tynner, of the parish of St.Mewan in Cornwall and the survivors and survivor of him his executors admin(istrators) and assigns upon this trust and confidence never the least in him the said Francis Rickard and to and for the uses intents and purposes hereafter mentioned and declared of and concerning the same (that is to say)

that he the said Francis Rickard and the survivors and survivor of him his executors Adm(inistrators) and assigns do and shalle immediately after my decease in the first place make sale of all or any of my effects to discharge my lawful debts and funeral charges and also upon this farther use intent & purpose trust and confidence in him the said Francis Rickard reposed and to this farther use intent and purpose and after my decease and after payment of my debts and funeral charges he shall be at the probate of this my will and the administration of my effects that he the said Francis Rickard and the survivors or survivor of him his executor Adm(inistartors) and assigns shall then remaine undisposed of to the only use and behalf of my three sons, Jonas Rickard, John Rickard and Robert Rickard their executors Adm(inistration)

and my further will is that the part share or devident of the remainder of my effects shall be paid and delivered to them when my eldest son Jonas Rickard shall and doth arrive at the age of twentyone years if he doth live so long and if not the remainder of my effects shall be paid to the other two, equal and equal alike when my son John Rickard doth attain the age of twentyone years and if my son John Rickard doth not attain the age of twentyone years then it shall be paid immediately after his decease to my son Robert Rickard and my will is that my son Jonas Rickard doth live to the age of twentyone years that the part share or devident of the remainder of my effects shall be equally devided share and share alike between them my three sons Jonas Rickard, John Rickard, and Robert Rickard as soon as my son Jonas shall attain to the age of twentyone years,

lastly I do make my brother Francis Rickard my whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 8th day of June 1761

JOHN RICKARD - 1790


Administration of John RICKARD 1790 (partly transcribed). John RICKARD 19 March 1790. Declared that Mr Joseph TRETHEY, of St Stephen in Brannel, Tinner, Richard YELLAND and Joseph TRETHEWY of the same parish, Tinners, are held and firmly bound...etc etc. (Form).

The Condition of this that is the above bound Joseph TRETHEWY being the Nephew Administrator of all singular Goods and Chattles and Credits of John RICKARD of St Stephens in Brannel

Sealed and delivered Signed: Joseph TRETHEWY (the sign of) Richard YELLAND and Joseph TRETHEWY signed their name.

(JE's Comments:-Caroline RICKARD and Joseph TRETHEWY, tinner, married 9 August 1759 St Stephen in Brannel. The witnesses were Philippa TRUSCOTT and Jane GEACH.
Caroline and Joseph TRETHEWY had children as follows: Joseph 1762, John 1764, Thomas 1767, Jonas 1769, Mary 1771, Caroline 1774, Elizabeth 1776. We can assume that Joseph senior and Joseph b1762 are the above named.)
