The Meyers Family

The Meyers Family originally from Germany, was living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area by the early 1860's. Aaron Meyers married Rachel Wechsler around 1860. Rachel was the daughter of Solomon and Hannah Wechsler. Aaron and Rachel had three children. I believe Aaron Meyers died around 1866. Aaron left the family fairly well off. Solomon and Hannah Wechsler were living with Rachel and family in the 1870 and 1880 census. Hannah Wechsler died in 1882 and Solomon Wechsler died Sept. 22,1889. Rachel ended up living with her son Moses and his family. Rachel died on April 1st, 1904 in Pittsburgh.

THE DEATH TOLL

Solomon Wechsler, who was said to be the oldest Hebrew in this county and one of the oldest in the country, died at the residence of his grandson, Moses Meyers, at the corner of South Twentieth and Jane streets, on Sunday night. Mr. Wechsler was born in Bavaria in 1799, and came to America about 1850. Shortly after landing he came to Allegheny and spent the balance of his life in the two cities. He was engaged in (unreadable) in Allegheny for some years but finally retired on account of advanced age. His wife died about ten years ago, and his daughter, Mrs. Meyers, is at present living with her son on the south side. Mr. Wechsler at his death was 90 years of age and was well known in both cities, as he was in Brooklyn and Cincinnati, where he has relatives living. The funeral will be held at the residence of Moses Meyers this afternoon.
