| Herbert J. Worgan was born c.
1859-1860 at Newland in Gloucestershire, where his father John Worgan
(1826-1879) was a farmer. After his father's death in 1879, his
mother Harriett Worgan née Herbert (1827-1892) and four siblings
moved to Derby, where the eldest son had been employed as a sanitary
inspector's superintendent. In April 1881, Herbert was employed
as a teacher at Cleveland House School, Radipole in Dorset, but he,
too, moved to Derby. He remained unmarried in 1901. In the 1891 and 1901 Censuses, Herbert Worgan is shown as a foreman for the Derby Sanitary Authority. The stereocards shown below are the only evidence found thus far of Herbert Worgan's photographic abilities. It is presumed that he pursued it merely as a sideline, or as a hobby. |
