Prior to the building of Emmanuel Church in 1846, Swadlincote was served by the parish church of St. George & St. Mary, Church Gresley.  Baptisms, marriages and burials within Swadlincote would usually have taken place in that church.  Details of available transcripts may be found on the Church Gresley Parish Pages.  However, it is also worth searching the registers for adjacent parishes of Newhall, Hartshorne and Woodville, particularly for residents of locations such as Midway.

Enumeration District 7 - Boundary: That part of the township of Swadlincote which lies to East of the Turnpike Road from Swadlincote to Woodville, commencing at Woodward's Row and terminating at the Market Place, bounded on the South by the Township of Woodville on the North by the Township of Newhall and the West by the Public Street (Market Street).  Contents: Mr. Eleys' Shop and all houses on that side of the said Turnpike Road or Public Street including Church Street and Stanley Street, also houses in Knighton's Brickyard and the Vicarage.  Enumerator: John Joseph Wright
