Reuben L. Butler was born 1823 in North Carolina, son of Neely Butler and Amy Ozier. He is found on the 1850 census in Barry County, Missouri.

Reuben L. Butler and his wife Margaret (Queen) are listed in the minutes of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church in Marion County, Arkansas in 1843. From there they moved their membership to a Methodist Church. Reuben L. Butler is listed on Land records as early as 1840 in Carrol County and Fulton County, Arkansas.

Years ago many different counties of Arkansas and Missouri were all considered Lawrance Co. ARKANSAS INDIAN TERRITORY.

Rueben married Margaret Queen about 1840, Margaret's maiden name we recently learned was Queen. We have discovered a death certificate for her daughter Anna Elisabeth Butler, listing her mothers maiden name as Queen. Margaret was 1/2 Cheeokee Indian. I believe Margaret's father may have been Wiliam Queen of North Carolina,(This has NOT been proven ) William is shown on the 1840 census in Carroll Co. Arkansas as well as his brother Reuben Queen who married Married Catherine Butler, who was an Aunt to Reuben L. Butler.

I onced believed Margret's father was Wiliam Brown, I had posted this along with a note stating it was not proven. I am truly sorry for the confusion this may have caused. We now know her maiden name was Queen. The Queen and Butler families do have a history of intermarriage , both families coming to Arkansas from North Carolina together with son's and daughter's inlaws of both families before 1840.

On the 1850 census of Barry County, Missouri, Margaret and Rueben are found living with their young family. They are shown on the 1860 census living in Fulton County, Arkansas.

Sometime after 1860 Reuben took some of his family members to Missouri. Sometime before 1870 his wife Margaret died. In 1880 he and his son Thomas are found on the census records living in Eastland, Texas. Reuben had remarried and his wife's name is Levisa

My line connects to the son of Reuben & Margaret, William Marion Butler, a minister. William Marion Butler married twice, first in 1863 to Martha Black, after her death in 1874 he married widow Mary Elisabeth "Betty" Wyatt/McNairn. William lived in Fulton County, Arkansas until his death. He and Betty are buried in the Humphrey Cemetery, Fulton County, Arkansas.

Much of this family history came from Milus B. Butler, son of William and Martha Black/Butler. Milus wrote many letters to family memmbers, over the years before his death, which gave documentaion to the names, dates and places. For him we are so thankful.
