Owner of Wellington Kincaid Co. on Riparian Street, Bridgeport, CT,
industrial plumbing supplies; Mr. Wellington retired, V.H. Kincaid bought
ownership from his widow after working there for sometime. Mr Kincaid
owned rented houses in Bridgeport and sold the houses f or the money to
buy the business.
Lived on Dixon Street then moved to Grover s Avenue, 1928. Liked to sail
boats on the St. Lawrence and Blackrock Sound. The Suzanne had no motor.
Had a boat built with motor and 3 bunks called the Asuva (dubbed by
Suzanne for Adella, Suzanne and Vincent). Boat names had 7 l etters.
Sailed to Long Island Harbor Club to go to the movies. Harbor tender
would come pick you up, they'd bring milk and the newspaper and take you
to the fair or where you wanted to go.
The boat was sinking, Huntington Harbor, LI, Adella couldn't swim but she
stuffed the hole (they forgot to put in the set screw) with rags, wearing
a custom made corset, which made it difficult t o move.
Suzanne tied the anchor rope to mast rope....took floor board up, she
could see where the water was pouring in, daylight coming in (Adella was
crying, she shouldn't have been out in the water)100 yard swim, Suzanne
would have to knock her out.......Adella had an Eno salts bottle she
brought with he r, get some rags, wrapped that around the top, climbed
along the engine, stuf fed the hole up, Suzanne got pumping and the boat
floated....Vincent saw a ma n going into the harbor that had taken his
boat for repair, so he rowed over for help.
Taking in water in the tail pipe story...at the America cup races, Mr.
Sopworth, England vs Vanderbuilt, New York. Too many people on the boat
during the race.........
