Elizabeth's birth is estimated at 1621-1623, based on her 1642 marriage date. Her parents and origin are unknown. She was not born in New Haven. It was not settled until 1638. (1) She married Samuel Hotchkiss shortly after 7 Sep 1642. They had been caught in an act of "filthy dalliance, and both of them severely whipped and then given consent to marry. (2) They had at least six children and then her husband, Samuel Hotchkiss, died in 1663. As his widow she acquired 1/3rd of his estate. (3) (4) She died in 1681.

both, they were both severely whipped."

"Samuell Hoskins and Elizbeth Cleverley, being desireous
to joyne together in the state of marryage, and nott being able to make prooffe
of their parents consent, butt seeing they both affirme they have the consent of
their parents, and with all haveing entred into contract, sinfully and wickedly
defiled each other with filthy dalliance and vncleane passages, by which they
have both made themselves vnfitt for any other, and for which they have both
received publique correctiõ, vpon these considerations, granted them liberty to
marry."
