Jenette Thourburn
Jenette Thorburn was born in Bovinia, Delaware County, New York in 1834. The Thorburns had emigrated from Roxburgh, Scotland around 1800, and settled in Bovinia. Other relatives ended up emigrating to Canada, and still live there. In the 1850's, Jenette's father Adam Thorburn moved to Janesville with his children, and began farming in Center shortly thereafter. The Thorburns became involved in the Grove Congregational Church in center, and some of the family were baptised there in the early 1860's. Jenette married James H Brown in January 1865, the day James entered service in the civil war, fighting with the Wisconsin 5th Infantry. After the war, James and Jenette settled in Center, farming very near her father Adam. Jenette had 6 sons, Frankie, who died as an infant, and Edwin, Oscar, Benton, George and Adam. James H died in 1892, and Jenette continued to raise the sons until her health caused her to move to Janesville, where she died in 1901.
