Silas Selim Hayford
Selim Hayford (b - Mar 8 1842 d -Dec 20 1890) was born in Parma, New York to parents Solomon and Sabrina Hyde. Sabrina Hyde's family history is documented all the way back to the year 160 AD in Norway. Along the way, this line included French and English Royalty, having various Royal positions in the "House of Dutton". Selim fought in the Civil War for the NY 13th Infantry, and moved to Whitewater, WIsconsin around 1870, working as a furniture maker there. Selim died from injuries he had recieved in the war in 1890. He and Martha had other children in addition to Florence, Riley, Cecil, Fred, Selvin and Ellen. Selim also had a brother Charles who had fought in the Civil War, and migrated to Wisconsin shortly after. I have no picture of Selim yet, but surely one exists as he was a key member in the Whitewater GAR post, and served as reverend there for a couple years. Selim is buried alone in the Hillside cemetery, Whitewater, Wisconsin.
