Mecklenburg Co, NC Deeds - Book 6, page 401:

 

This Indenture made 24th March 1854 Between John Knox of the County of Mecklenburg & State of North Carolina & Jos. Gillespie of the County & State aforesaid in the other part Witnesseth that John Knox surrenders any & all claim or claims of that piece of Land situate & lying west of the line Bound as follows Beginning at a B-Jack Thense S12 poles to Hickory S 52 W 56 poles to a Maple by the Ditch Thence S 34 W 40 poles to Pine. Thense S 55 W 34 poles to W. Oak & from thence into the Estern [sic] line of John Alexander's plantation at a point which will make one hundred & twenty six Acres ____the said Alexander Tract.  On Testimony whereof I set my hand & seal.  Signed Sealed & deliver in the presence of

State of N. Carolina Mecklenburg County. In probate.  It appearing to the Court - by the oath & examination of E. A. McAly that John Knox the grantor and [J. R. Knox &] A. S. Knox the subscribing witnesses are both dead.  It is further proven by the oath of E. A. McAuly [McCauley] that he is well acquainted with the handwriting of the Grantor & witnesses having often seen them well & that their names appear in the proper handwriting.  Therefore let said deed and this certificate to Registered Sept 30th 1869.
