Notes and comments regarding individuals who purchased items from Jane’s Estate or appear in accounting records:

1.       John Knox, assumed to be Jane's brother

2.       David Smith, assumed to be Jane's near-kin, an uncle? brother? of her mother, Mary (Smith) Knox.

3.       Samuel Wilson is assumed to be Jane's brother-in-law, Samuel Wilson Jr. who m. Hannah Knox, and who was also Jane and John's Guardian after April 1794.

4.       Allison Knox, was Jane's step-father.  He married Jane's mother, Mary (Smith) Knox, widow of Capt Patrick Knox after Patrick was killed at the Battle of Ramseur's Mill in the American Revolution.

5.       Moses Shelby is assumed to be Jane's half-brother-in-law, the husband of half-sister, Mary Ann Knox, daughter of Mary (Smith) Knox and her second husband, Allison Knox.

6.       Polly Wilson is assumed to be Jane's niece, daughter of sister Hannah Knox and Samuel Wilson Jr.   Polly married her cousin, Benjamin Wilson, son of Major David Wilson.

7.       Elias Alexander is assumed to be John Knox's brother-in-law who married twice, the second marriage was to Elizabeth (Robison) Gillespie, daughter of Robert Robison II and Margaret Henderson, and widow of Alexander Gillespie.  Elizabeth was the sister of John Knox's wife, Polly B. Robison.

8.       Samuel Johnston is assumed to be Samuel C. Johnston who m. Louisa Henderson. Named one of their son's John Henderson Johnston.  The John Henderson who also appears on this list may be Louisa's kin.  Suspect Louisa was a cousin to Polly B. (Robison) Knox, whose mother was Margaret Henderson.  Polly's mother Margaret was the daughter of Carnes Henderson and Elizabeth Robison/Robinson (who was the daughter of Andrew Robison/Robinson and Agnes Nancy Boal).

9.       James G. Torrence is assumed to be James Galbraith Torrence, who married 3 times.  His second wife was Mary Polly Latta, daughter of  James Latta and Jane Knox, daughter of Robert and Mary (Ewart) Knox.

10.   Ephraim Alexander is assumed to be Ephraim K. Alexander, brother of Josiah Alexander -- both sons of Amos and Susannah (Johnston) Alexander.  Ephraim was the father of Amos Alfred Alexander who m. Mary B. Knox, daughter of John and Mary/Polly B. (Robison) Knox.

11.   Jonathan Dewese is assumed to be Jonathan Deweese, son of Hezekiah and Annis (Trickey) Deweese.  Jonathan was the father of Margaret A. Deweese who m. James Reid, b.abt 1803, Ireland..and assumed to be James Reed/Reid,  "nephew" of James Smith named in his 1860 LWT).  James and Margaret (Deweese) Reid's son Hugh Silverman Reid was baptized at Bethel. Margaret (Deweese) Reid is buried at Ramah.  James Reid remarried after her death in 1867, but when/where he died in unknown.

12.   Hugh L. Wilson, b. 31 Jan 1786, NC d. 11 July 1855, Lincoln Co, NC;  m. Delia B. McCaul/McCall in Lincoln Co, 1826. Delia b. 5 Apr 1897 (in Lincoln Co) d. 7 Mar 1880 in Catawba Springs, Lincoln Co, NC.  Both are buried at Unity Presbyterian Church, Lincoln Co, NC.  They are the only Wilsons buried there, but there are several McCaul/McCalls there, so this is probably Delia's family.  Since they lived in Lincoln Co, I'm assuming there was some family connection...or close friendship with Jane Knox...but at this time unknown. They do not appear to be connected to the Samuel Wilson family in Mecklenburg.

13.   Martha Elliot, b. bef 1757 and d. after Nov 1821, Mecklenburg Co, NC, is assumed to be Martha, the widow of Robert Elliott.  The Dr. William S. Elliot to whom John Knox sold 105 acres in 1816 was her son.  Martha and Robert’s other children include: John T., Edward Franklin, David M., Jenny K, Mary, and Hannah.   There is a high probability that Martha was Knox kin – perhaps a Smith?  Her three daughters appear to have Knox namesakes:  Jenny Knox, Mary (Smith) Knox and Hannah (Knox) Wilson
