The map positions land-owners, mills, schools, churches, roads, rivers & streams and many other features as they existed prior to 1800. The book explores a wide range of historical matters Mr. Hughes encountered as research on the map proceeded. An explanation of the symbols used on the map can be found in the Map Legend below.
These fourteen quadrants are located in approximately the eastern third of present-day Guilford, and were within the boundaries of Orange County prior to 1770. Unfortunately, there is no comparable map which shows landowners prior to 1800 who were located in the rest of "Old Orange" part of which became Alamance in 1850. The "McCulloh Tract" is located in part of C6 (south of Friedens), D5, D6, E5, F5, F6, and all of E6.
