Lewis - Brock Wedding.

Mr. Noyes F. Lewis and Miss Caroline Brock were united in marriage Wednesday evening, June 23, by Rev. T. H. Boggess at the Baptist parsonage.  Only a few of the immediate relatives were present.  The bride and groom are both well known Carthage young people and of excellent character.  Their many friends unite in wishing them much happiness.

On Monday evening a reception was given the bride and groom at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Brock, just north of Carthage.  The Baptist Young People's Union of which both the bride and groom are members, attended in a body and presented the happy couple with a silver spoon on which were engraved the initials, "B. Y. P. U."

Skiles officiating.  Mrs. Ralph Denison was the organist and Miss Karen Tillman and Robert Tillman were the vocalists.  The casket bearers were Olen Smith, Fred Wright, Lloyd Ericson, Robert Wear, Loren Gelhaar, and Jerry Nutt, Jr.  Burial was in Moss Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Lewis died Friday, Nov. 26, in Graham hospital in Quincy.  He had been in ill health for six years and had been a resident-patient in the Clark Nursing Home in Keokuk since Nov. 16, 1960.

Born south of Carthage in Carthage township April 23, 1888, he was a son of Thomas and Elezan Riley Lewis.  He lived in or near Carthage during his entire life time.  As a young man he engaged in farming and in later years he was a drayman and hauled freight and express in Carthage.  He also was employed by Carthage College for several years.

Doc, as he was known to all of his friends, was a great favorite with the children of the community and his retirement ended the era in which the horse was used for the delivery of freight.  Doc and his horse, George, were familiar to all.

He was married June 23, 1909 to Carolyn Mae Brock, who preceded him in death.

He was a member of the First Baptist church of Carthage.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Moses of Long Beach, Calif. and Mrs. Russell (Mary Belle) Flack of near Bowen; and a grandson John Flack.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean; a brother, William Otis; a half-brother, Frank; and two half-sisters, Mary and Ollie.
