Introduction

The Buckner Davis ancestry is of Cherokee, English, German (probably), Irish, Scotch and Welsh. Known direct ancestors are of the surnames Arbuckle, Baker, Bentley, Browning, Buckner, Davis, Duncan, Fox/Fuchs, Freeman, Gibson, Graham, Jones, Kitchen, Hall, Hammons/Hammonds, Mitchell, McDermid, Purnell, Redden, Robertson, Rogers, Shilliday, Smock, Sutton and Wells. Included in this research are the known in-laws and out-laws as well as those believed to be of this family and as yet unproven. Many pages are still under construction. Until such time as the information is available here, please contact me with your queries.

Joe Perez, an especially helpful friend and researcher of the Buckner family, wrote, "In some instances I have found competing sites that give slightly different information, which, strangely enough, makes me feel better, since it implies that different sources were originally used and these researchers came up with approximately the same information.  Other times, I find only one source, and that source often contains information that on its face contains contradictions.  What to do - reject it all, any good that may be there along with the obvious bad, or leave it in, in the hopes that future information may help to separate the good from the bad.  I usually tend to follow the latter approach, but I can't help feeling guilty about it.  The file that I sent to you contains some information that I thought was questionable, but I left it in for the above reasons.  I hope that I don't lead anyone to rely on it more than it deserves.  In the final analysis I guess we are all responsible for taking all the information we find, from whatever source, with tons and tons of salt."

This a problem that plagues us all, especially now with the availablity of so much information on the internet. Sad to say, historians and genealogists occasionally make mistakes and the incorrect information is repeated by so many over such a long span of time it becomes almost irrefutable.  Thus, it is perfectly understandable why many family histories repeat the same mistakes.
