Will of William Sandidge

     IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN:  The 11th day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty-six: I WILLIAM SANDIDGE of the Parish of St. George, in the County of Spotsylvania: being very sick and weak, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God therefore, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and descent manner at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God: and as touching such world estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:

     IMPRIMIS:  It is my will and desire that my son William Sandidge shall have my land at Elke Neck with the appurtenances to him and heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, and if William dies without heir as aforsaid, then the said land to be sold and the money to be equally divided amongst the surviving sons: further it is my will and desire that my youngest son, John Sandidge shall have the land and plantation whereon I now live concluding four hundred acres with the appurtenances to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, also one negro boy named Abram: if John dies without heir then the part of the estate due him by my will shall fall to my two sons ……………and David.

     ITEM: I give to my son James Sandidge five hundred acres of land to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, and one negro fellow named Isaac and if James dies without heir then the part of the estate due to him is to fall to his two brothers David and John Sandidge .

     ITEM: I give to my son James Sandidge five hundred acres of land, the remaining part of East no east tract to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, also one negro named Frank and if my son David should die without heir as aforesaid, then the part of estate due to him by my will to his two brothers James and John Sandidge.

     ITEM: I give to my granddaugher Sarah Golson one hundred acres of land adjoining the land that my son-in-law Golson lives on: further it is my will and desire that the remaining part of the tract of land be sold and the money be equally divided between my two sons James and David Sandidge: further it is my will that my son William Sandidge shall have my horse Arnes: further it is my will and desire that my son William Shall have one shilling: further it is my will and desire that my daughter Golson shall have one shilling: further it is my will and desire that all the remainder of my estate after all my debts are paid, shall be equally divided between my dear and well beloved wife Ann Sandidge and my three sons, James, David and John Sandidge, but after the death of my aforesaid wife, then that part due to her be my will to be equally divided betweeen the said three sons James, David and John Sandidge, and I hereb y ordain and appoint my dear and well beloved wife Ann and her two sons James and David Sandidge my executors of this my last will and testament, disallowing, revoking and disannulling all and any other former testaments, wills and legacies, bequeaths and executions by me in any way before this time named willed, bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

This will being exhibited and sworn to in Court by Ann Sandidge, James and David Sandidge, Executors therein named and was proved by the oaths of Thomas White and Betty White the witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded.
