BOB HOPE AT
Will Rogers Day Parade
[November 4, 1947]

This picture was taken Tuesday Nov. 4, 1947 at the Will Rogers Day Parade. Bob Hope and his troupe of entertainers were on hand for the parade and he made his weekly radio broadcast, that evening, from Claremore. I believe they gave an early performance from the Will Rogers Memorial grounds and the actual broadcast later, probably from the O.M.A campus. Click here to see a picture of the audience waiting for the early show to begin.

The first car [that has already crossed the tracks], contains Bob Hope, Governor Turner and Edgar A Guest. The next car, [closest to camera] has Jerry Colonna, Miss Sullivan and Miss Vera Vague sitting in the back in the celebrity position.

The old building on the left was Rosson-McCoy's and stood where Pixley Lumber now stands. The parade is heading west on Will Rogers Blvd. where it crosses J. M .Davis Blvd. and the Frisco tracks.

I was 11 years old and attended the show at the Will Rogers Memorial. I knew the voices of all the people in the show from listening every week. However, the faces didn't match the voices. I had already formed a picture of how each one looked and it seemed very strange hearing those familiar voices coming from those strange faces.
