1857. He married abt. 1884 and
had one daughter, Bessie. [More

He married Martha Ellen [Cobb]
Cantrell May 2, 1889. She had
previously married John Cantrell
and had one daughter, Violet
Nancy.
Charles William [Bill] and Martha
Ellen had 9 children together.
They started their married life in
Ava, Douglas County, Missouri,
then moved to Jenks, Oklahoma,
then to Texas for a short time,
then back to Missouri and finally
to Dawson, Oklahoma, [now a
part of Tulsa]. Later they moved
to Verdigris, Oklahoma where
they operated a small grocery
store in the 1920's. |

Charles William McCaskey died at Verdigris, Oklahoma July 17, 1933. Mrs. McCaskey
continued living in the Verdigris and Claremore, Oklahoma area until her death October
29, 1957.
Their 9 children were as follows: ALVA LEE, ONA BELLE, DELLA EVELINE, MAUDY
MAE [DIED IN INFANCY], HOBART ROOSEVELT, LOUELLA JEAN, CHARLES
EDWARD, BOWDEN EVERETT AND MAGGIE MAY.

Martha said she met C. W. [Bill] McCaskey when she was 17 in Douglas County, MO. He
was 11 years older than her, divorced with one child. Martha's father wouldn't let her
marry him. The child was named Anna. When she grew up she married a man named
Viles so she became Anna Viles. I believe her mother's parents raised her.
After failing to marry Martha Ellen Cobb, Charles William McCaskey married her best
friend [name unknown at this time] and they had one child, Bessie Mae. About this same
time frame, Martha married John Cantrell and they had a daughter, Violet Eveline or
Eveline Violet. John Cantrell left Martha and Martha's father, Elias Cobb, helped her get
a divorce.
Charles William's wife died and left him with daughter, Bessie. Martha Ellen cared for the
ailing wife [her best friend] and promised she would marry Charles and raise the daughter
Bessie as her own with her daughter, Violet. She and Charles William McCaskey were
married May 2, 1889 in Ava, MO.
Martha said she loved Bill but they couldn't see eye to eye. He gambled some and had
hussies -- wanted to bring one home, once, and she refused.
