Claremore Rodeo Parade, June 1951

Laura Ann Higdon and Starlight in Claremore for the Rodeo Parade, June 1951

Laura Ann and family moved from the rural Claremore area, in 1949, to Tulsa.  Her horse, Starlight, also made the move with her. With the help of her father, Nola A. Higdon, she was able to bring Starlight back to Claremore to ride in the Rodeo Parades of 1950 and 1951. She hated the thought of leaving the Claremore area for the big city but she wasn't ask if she wanted to move.

I think that building in the background was one of several bath houses in existence at that time. The trailer and truck were sitting between what would now be the Drug Warehouse and J. M. Davis Museum, facing east toward Lynn Riggs Blvd. [Catalayah at that time.]

Laura's parents owned the "White City" Furniture store in Tulsa.  This photo shows that her father used the furniture delivery truck and a rented trailer to deliver Laura and Starlight to Claremore for the parade.
