Laura Ann and I [Jim] had Christmas dinner at our house on Dec. 25, 1956, with Ted and Mardie Tedder. I'm sorry to say that Ted passed on to that big Army Base in the sky in May of 2000. I had the privilege of talking with him by phone several months before his death and, although, he was in good spirits, he was not happy about getting old.

We had been corresponding with Mardie by snail mail, for some time, but then she got e mail capabilities and and we corresponded that way for some time.  In December of 2005, I learned, from Ted's eldest son, Marvin Tedder, Jr. that Mardie passed away in September of 2005.  So now, we have lost them both.

I think Ted was about 78 years of age at the time of his death. One thing we discussed in that phone conversation was the motorcycle accident we had with me driving, and him on behind. I ended up with a broken leg and spent the next 40 days and nights in Tokyo Army Hospital. Ted escaped any serious injury from it. [How was I to know they drove on the wrong side of the road in Japan?]  Afterward, they were both very nice to let Laura Ann stay nights with them while I was in the hospital. I don't think I ever got around to properly expressing my appreciation for that.

Anyway, in picture # 1 Ted carved the ham while Mardie and Jim looked hungry and Laura Ann took a much needed nap. After dinner, Mardie did some dish washing in our tiny kitchen, picture # 2. If you click on picture # 1 for the larger view, you can smell the ham.

....Jim
