The Cherry Blossom was conveniently located close enough to where the USS Esteem was dry-docked that a sailor could walk back to the ship after having few Asahi beers.

Here are of few crew members gathered in the mess hall for a coffee break. I'm the one on the right. This photo was taken with my camera set on self-timer. Kind of a new thing in those days.

This photo was taken from our docked ship at Kaoshung, Formosa. I talked these little boys into posing for me. Notice the one on the end smoking a cigarette one of the sailor's threw to him.

This photo shows a cemetery at Sasebo. It was obviously very old. How they managed to bury people in what looked like solid rock, I'll never know.

Here I am trying to help the post-war Japanese economy. You can bet I didn't pay much for it since I was only making $117 a month.

Here we are playing a little softball at Commissary Field on a navy base in Sasebo, Japan. I'm sure that I hit a home run with this swing.
