Descendents of William Breland, Sr.

Five Breland brothers came into New York prior to the Revolutionary War from Bavaria, Germany.  It is thought that one of the five brothers remained in New York, and the other four migrated to Old Beaufort District along the Savannah River in South Carolina, and that some time after the Revolution three of the four boys moved to Alabama, leaving William Breland, who moved from Old Beauford District near Savannah River to the Rivers Bridge area in Old Barnwell District, South Carolina, and it is assumed that the Breland Cemetery was on his property at that time.  A monument has been erected at Rivers Bridge Memorial State Park. The inscription on one side of the monument reads: "Breland came here from Bavaria G. Y. 1776" On the reverse side of the monument the following six names are inscribed:

William Breland Sr. 1753-1825, His Wife 1755-1820
William Breland Jr. 1777-1845,  His Wife 1778-1849
Abram Breland 1795-1852
Rosanah Breland 1825-1834
Annie Thurston Breland 1820-1841
Ellen Breland 1841-1847
