McQueen Family Updated July 4, 1999 Copyright 1999-2002. All rights reserved. Home We've traced our McQueen ancestors back to Samuel McQueen (1750 - 1794) of Johnson County, Tennessee. Mary Floy Katzman has copies of his land grants in what used to be Wilkes and Washington Counties, NC, but is now in Tennessee. Several books mention these McQueens: "A McQueen Family Historical Tour" by Sheila McQueen Ellison (Gardendale, Alabama: The Promise Publishing House) "The McQueens of Johnson County, Tennessee" by Carl Neal (available on microfilm only). (Lessa McQueen Alkire lists these and several others that tell about the McQueens and their roles in the history of Eastern Tennessee on her web site.) The following list of McQueens is from a book entitled "The Original Scots Colonists of Early America 1612- 1783" by David Dobson. It's a list of Scottish passengers to America. "Transported" means that the person was involuntarily transported and "shipped" means that the person was traveling voluntarily. Jacobites believed that only the descendants of Scottish King James had a legitimate claim to the throne of Scotland. (Jacob is Latin for James.) Covenanters are Presbyterians who signed a covenant pledging to oppose other religions. Kings didn't always tolerate such beliefs, so those people were "transported" from Great Britain as punishment for their political and religious beliefs.
