Story of Guy Kent, as told me by a Mr. Price - tax collector in Palmyra. Guy Kent lives in his grandfather’s old home (James Madison Kent) probably the old Rice Home, at Kent’s Store, VA. The house is a small frame structure, ornately decorated with a scalloped border about a foot wide all around the roof, with many other fancy decorations in wood. It was a charming little house, somewhat resembling a ginger cookie house. It was surrounded by trees, shrubs and boxwood. When a young man, Guy Kent was in love with a lovely girl. They were planning to marry, when his mother succeeded in breaking it up. After a few years, the girl’s mind became bad and she was placed in a home for treatment. She returned home several times, but finally was placed in a home where she died an old woman. Probably Guy’s mother thought her feeble minded all along.

When Guy’s mother died at 92, a Negro man who had lived with them, promised her he would never leave Guy. He takes care of the cooking, the house and although he has many chances to work elsewhere, he has never left. I did not go to see Guy Kent, but hop to do so sometime
