(from Andrew Kent papers, Ruth Snead Papers)

Archelaus Kent married Sarah Suddreth, daughter of Abraham and Martha Sumter Suddreth of Albemarle County, in 1830. Martha Sumter Suddreth was the sister of Gen. Thomas Sumter (1732-1832) of South Carolina, the famous partisan leader during the Revolution. He was born near Charlottesville, VA., was Lieutenant Colonel of S. Carolina troops 1776-1778 - he campaigned in SC against British under Tarlatan.
In the Book "The Santee" he is mentioned---to settle on the Santee River near Eutaw Springs was Thomas Sumpter (Sumter), who left his native State, on an adventurous trip as escort to England for a party of Cherokee headmen and who, as an energetic and conscientious partisan General, was to lead his rebel militia all over these Carolina Hills in countless hit and run campaigns."
