Benjamin Franklin Bibb Family

 

Benjamin Franklin (B.F.), was born July 22, 1829 in Caroline Co., VA., d. April 20, 1920, Greene Co. AR., buried, Providence Cemetery. His father, Garrett Bibb, was born ca. 1790/1800 in Virginia. Unfortunately his mother remains unidentified. The family migrated from Virginia to Henderson Co. TN., with six children residing in the household according to the 1840 census. Two of these children have been identified as, Elizabeth Jane and Benjamin Franklin.

Benjamin, at the age of 16, enlisted at Huntington, TN., June 4, 1846 for service in the Mexican War. He was assigned to Co. B., Tennessee Volunteers under Captain Murray. Wounded in action at Cerro Gordo, Mexico, April 18, 1847, he was taken to Jalapa for treatment of his injuries.

After returning to Tennessee, it is not known if his family was still in Henderson County, or had relocated to Carroll County. 1850 Census Carroll Co., TN., I have found B.F. listed in District #12, household #1414 ~ Elijah Faulkner, h/h, as a farm laborer, sister Elizabeth and family also lived in District #12, household #1411 ~ Pleasant K. Parsons, h/h.

Benjamin married Jane Cathryn Pattishall, April 3, 1851, Cotton Plant, St. Francis Co., AR. Jane was born ca. 1830-35 in Chatham Co. N.C., d. 1904, Greene Co. AR. Both are at rest in Providence Cemetery, Greene Co., AR.

Three children were born to Ben and Jane in Tennessee.

(1) Wm. G. b. 1853, Carroll Co., TN., d. Greene Co., AR., prior to 1870, burial location is unknown.

(2) John Fletcher b. Oct., 30, 1854, d. February 6, 1942 Greene Co., AR.

(3) Paralee Elender b. April 2, 1858, d. ca 1939, place of death and burial are unknown.She married George W. Dawson, 1877, Greene Co.

The family migrated to Greene County, Arkansas, prior to May, 1860. Two more children were born before the out break of the Civil War. Ten children in all were born to Ben and Jane, five of which came into this world  after 1865, all being born in Greene County, Arkansas.

(4) Sarah Frances b. May 25, 1860, d. Dec. 18, 1942, Greene Co., she married (1) Nathan H. Jackson, 1873, Greene Co., d. unknown; (2) Morris M. Wright 1877, Greene Co.

(5) Mary J. b. Oct. 17, 1862, d. prior to 1870, burial unknown.

(6) Nancey Cathryn b. July 30, 1865, d. Jan. 27, 1936, m. Thomas W. Jackson, 1844, Greene Co., AR.

(7) Martha R. b. April 1868, d. 1946 Craighead Co., AR., burial location unknown: m. Wm. T. "Tuck" Harris, 1899, Greene Co., AR., his death date and burial location are unknown.

(8) Jack W. b. 1869, d. Nov 26, 1926, Greene Co., m. (1) Cora I. Fortson, 1893, Greene Co., (2) Annie (maiden unknown) 1907, Tennessee.

(9) Esper (Esther) Ann b. ca. 1871, d. prior to 1900, Greene Co., AR., burial unknown, m. W.E. Sanford, 1890, Greene Co., AR.

(10) Dortha Alice b. ca. 1875, d. 1913, Greene Co., m. James D. Fortson, 1904, Greene Co. she is buried at Gainesville Cemetery, Gainesville, AR.
