Sister M. Bathona, 87, nee Elizabeth Wettstein, died, Nov. 14 at Kitchner, Ontario, Canada.

She was born in the town of Stockbridge near kloten on Nov. 4, 1870, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wettstein.

Sister Bathona was a member of Notre Dame convent at Kitchner a branch of the Milwaukee convent and was a nun for the past 67 years, 45 years in Canada. Burial was at Kitchner, Ontario.

Survivors include four brothers: Henry, of West Point, Nebr.; Frank, of Chilton; Otto, of Long Prairie, Minn; and Thomas of Chicago; one sister Sr. M. Euphrasia, of St. Agnes Convent, Fond du Lac.

Mrs. Thomas Buechel, 47, of W. 2631 St. Charles Road, Chilton, died this morning in Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton.

The former Eileen Broeckel, she was born on Oct. 5, 1938, in the Town of Brothertown, a daughter of Anton and Romilda Weber Broeckel.

On Oct. 8, 1958, she married Thomas Buechel at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg.

She was employed by the Leverenz Shoe Co., in New Holstein fro nine years.

Mrs. Buechel was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg, its Christian Mothers Society and the V.F.W. Auxilliary 3153.

Survivors, besides her husband and parents, are a daughter, Mrs. Dennis Joanne Staats, of Chilton; a son, Charles, at home; two granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Bruno Buechel, of Chilton; and a brother, Lester, of Chilton.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg, with Rev. David Christel, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. when family rites will be held.

The youngest and one of the most promising Wisconsin officers, was Colonel Frederick A. Boardman of the Fourth Wisconsin Regiment. The painful intelligence reached this city Wednesday that he was shot through the head and instantly killed, while on a scouting expedition near Baton Rouge, on the 4th inst. The despatch bringing the news was followed by his remains which left Gairo Wednesday, and will arrive here this afternoon.

Col. Boardman was born in Herkimer county, New York, and was but thirty years of age at his death. He has been actively engaged in the service of the government ever since he came to manhood. Graduating regularly from the naval school at Annapolis, he was first assigned to the Susquehannah, one of the vessels comprising the noted expedition to Japan, commanded by Commedore Perry, during President Fillmore's administration. While in the navy he visited the most distant portions of the world, proving himself on all occasions a promising and competent officer. When the war broke out, he accepted a commission as Major of the 4th regiment, since which time he has accompanied that regiment in all its battles and expeditions, the attack on Port Hudson excepted, at which time he was lying sick in hospital. At the capture of New Orleans, he was selected by Gen. Williams, with two companies of the 4th regiment, to accompany the expedition for cutting off the communication between Fort Philip and the city, and it was in great part owing to Col. Boardman's experience, that the expedition was successful, himself leading his men on foot through the currents which threatened to defeat the enterprise. When the city was entered, he was appointed to the command of eight companies of infantry assigned tot he duty of taking possession of the public building. Gen. Butler subsequently appointed him one of the provost commissioners for the administration of the judicial business of the city, which position Major B. declined, preferring to accompany his regiment. Upon the promotion of Col. Paine, Maj. Boardman was commissioned Lieut. Col., and upon the death of Col. Bean he was promoted to the chief command of the regiment, which place he has filled with marked ability. He was by nature honest, generous and brave. In the midst of the temptations and facilities for plunder which surrounded him. His personal integrity has remained as unquestioned and unsuspected as his personal courage. His death is undoubtedly die to that fearlessness in action for which he was distinguished. The state could not have lost a man who has reflected more honor upon the service.

Col. Boardman was a nephew of Mrs. Josiah A. Noonan of this city, and the funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. Noonan tomorrow. Notice of the hour will be given in the morning papers. - Milwaukee News May 13th.

We regret to learn from The Appleton Cresent, that Judge John a. Bryan of Menasha, died at his residence near that place last week. His age was not given but at his death his years must have numbered nearly four scores. In the prime of his life, Judge Bryan was recognized as a man of marked ability, and as a far sighted and successful politician. For many years he was Chairman of the democratic state central committee of Ohio and contributed largely to the success of liberal principles is that state.

Under the administration of President Tyler, he was appointed Assistant Postmaster General, which position he held for some years. About the year 1850 he removed to Wisconsin and became the editor of this paper, then published by the late Dr. B. b. Cary of Racine, in which place he continued until a change in the proprietorship of the office, when he was appointed register of the land of office at Menasha, a position which afforded him a kind of occupation and retirement suited to his advanced age, and which he held during the administration of Pierce and Buchanan. He was highly connected by marriage 1 being the father-in-law of Gov. Weller of California and of Hon. Mr. Edgerton of Ohio for several years a member of congress from that state.

Judge Bryan was a man of pure impulses and unquestioned integrity. In his daily intercourse with his friends he was uniformly courteous, affectionate, unassuming and genial exhibiting all the nobler characteristics of the old fashioned well bred gentleman. His private correspondence was voluminous and he numbered among his personal friends many of the most distinguished public men of the country. To the day of his death he was a firm and consistent democrat, and bitterly deplored the troubles into which the nation had been plunged by an abandonment of those old-time principles, to the advancement of which his life had been dedicated. In the town of Chilton, on Monday the 11th inst., Mrs. Ann Boyle, wife of Hugh Boyle, aged 30 years.

The deceased we have known from girlhood and can truly say that in every department from the obedient child to the true mother and faithful wife, she gave satisfaction to all, and while we are penning this article the tears of friendship are flowing from Nature's eyelids and the water courses of Sympathy are overflowing with deep felt regret for the loss sustained by the bereft husband and the relatives of the deceased. Peace to her ashes is the prayer of all.

On Wednesday, November 10, another of the sturdy pioneers of New Holstein passed to that mysterious world beyond the grave. A message received in this city that day brought news of the death of Nicholas Boie, father of Mrs. E. W. Paulsen, who lived to the age of 88 years, 4 months and 5 days. Mr Boie had been in feeble health for the past year and although his death was not entirely unexpected it brought the deepest sorrow to the members of his family and to old neighbors and friends in the community of which he was a part for the past fifty-five years.

Nicholas Boie was born in Germany, July 21, 1821. In 1850 he was married to Cecilia Tonner and three years later they emigrated to America and located in the woods in the town of New Holstein, one mile south of the village. The task set before him and his life partner was no easy one. Located in a dense forest with little or no experience they began the work of carving out a home. The privations and hardships which they underwent would have discouraged a less determined couple and caused them to abandon the work, but not so with this couple, for they were determined and their efforts were crowned with success.

For nearly fifty years, or until some six years ago, they resided on the farm which they secured from the government when they located in New Holstein. Some six years ago they disposed of the farm and moved into the village where they spent their declining years enjoying the fruits of their labor. About a year ago Mr. Boie's health began to fail, owing to old age, and he was given every care and comfort that his children could secure for him.

During his long residence in New Holstein he was recognized as an upright and patriotic citizen, a good neighbor, devoted husband and father. He is survived by his widow, three sons, John of Clark county, Henry and Wm. Of Spokane, Washington, and six daughters, Mesdames, Ferd Hachez, Fred Matzen, Aug. Hansen of New Holstein, E. W. Pauisen of Chilton, Chas. Sebelin and Albert Arps of Ouray, Colorado. The funeral will take place this Saturday afternoon.

The following was taken from the Cherokee, Iowa, Democrat: The death of Mathew Benson, which occurred in this city Monday evening, brought universal sorrow to the community. "Matt" as he was familiarly known, had been ill about ten days, but from the start his sickness was of serious nature-pneumonia being the complaint-and for several days it was felt that he could not survive. He was a man of splendid physique and apparently always in the enjoyment of good health. His only weakness was in his lungs, and this made him comparatively easy victim for the dread disease which so quickly carried him away. The diseased lacked two days of being 35 years of age. He came to Cherokee from Wisconsin some fourteen years ago and has spent these years here in various pursuits. Among his fellow men he made a reputation and a record for goodness of character which any young man might be proud to leave behind. He was quiet and unassuming, reliable in every position of trust, honorable in the highest degree and generous to a fault. When we hear the living speak so kindly of the dead as they have of Matt Benson we feel that the life of such a one is worthy of emulation.

The funeral services were held at the Catholic church at noon yesterday, where the remains lay until 10 o'clock, when they were taken to Elkhart Lake, for interment. The fire department of which deceased was assistant chief and treasurer, escorted the remains to the depot. Richard Benson, a brother, and M. H. Goggins, a cousin arrived from Wisconsin previous to Matt's death and accompanied the remains to their last resting place. A father, four brothers and three sisters are left to mourn.

At his home in this city on Wednesday, March 23, Fredrich Borek age 34 years, 1 day.

The deceased was born in the town of Brookfield, Waukesha county. When two years of age he came to the town of Charlestown this county, with his parents and there grew to manhood. About one year and a half ago he was taken with a cold which terminated into that dread disease consumption and caused his death. He was married in 1890 to Miss Annie Horst, of Charlestown, who with one child survive him. Mr. Borek was a hard working, industrious, man and his untimely death will be a hard blow for his widow and relatives. The Times extends sympathy. The funeral took place on Friday, the remains being followed to the Gravesville cemetery by a large concourse of friends.

The sad death of John Frederich Bischoff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bischoff, occurred Friday evening at 8:30. John was well known among the boys of Fond du Lac and a favorite with them all. Possessing a happy disposition, kind and considerate to all, honest and true he had won deservedly the respect and admiration of his many friends. The only son the pride and hope of his parent, he had before him the prospects of a noble bright life. He had taken a course in the German and English Academy and finished the course in grammar department of the high school. About two years ago he went to take a couple of years experience in the drug store of his uncle. Ernest Bischoff, preparatory to entering the Chicago school of Pharmacy, this fall. He came home in May to attend the wedding of his sister and make a few weeks visit with his family. Decoration day he had packed his trunk, ready to return to Chicago the next morning. That night he complained of headache and billiousness, and the next morning he decided to wait a day or two before going. For few days he gradually, then suddenly became worse, his trouble terminating in inflammation of and effusion of water in the brain, carried him away Friday night. He would have been 20 years old June 25th. The family have the sympathy of all in their great bereavement. The funeral took place Monday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Joseph church with interment at Rienzi. Fond du Lac Commonwealth.

The deceased was a grand-son of Owen O'Hern of Chilton town. The Times extends sympathy tot he bereft relatives.

Mrs. Susan Bauer who has been a resident of this city for the past ten years, died at her home in the third ward on Monday. Mrs. B. was born in Germany in 1819 and had attained the age of 76 years. Her death was caused from an apparent sickness and the peaceful manner in which she passed away was evidence that death was the result of old age. Her funeral occurred on Wednesday. Peter Bauer of the town of Meeme was in attendance at the funeral.

At the home of her son in the town of Woodville, on Saturday, Jan. 19, Sarah Bullen, aged 94 years, 3 months and 8 days.

Sarah Bullen was born in England, Oct. 11, 1800. At the age of 54 years she, with her husband and children came to America. After staying one year in New York state they came west in April, 1855 and located in the town of Woodville, this county, being among the first settlers of that town. Mrs. Bullen experienced all the hardships of a pioneer life and saw a dense wilderness change to a beautiful farming district. She was a woman of a generous nature and many of the early pioneers remember the many kindly acts rendered them at her hands. In 1865 her husband died and since then she made her home with her son John, in Woodville and Mrs. Beach, a daughter residing in Menasha. She was a fond and indulgent mother and obliging neighbor and true friend. Her funeral took place on Wednesday from the M. E. Church, of Menasha. She leaves two sons, John of Woodville, and O. L., of Nasshua, Iowa and one daughter, Mrs. Happy Beach, of Menasha, to mourn her death.

Mrs. Emma Beil nee Jaeger, was born in Stockbridge township, July 10, 1864 and feel asleep May 5, 1895, aged 30 years, 7 months and 26 days.

On Nov. 22, 1887, she was united in marriage with Henry Beil, of Brothertown, of which union there are three children. Some years ago they moved on a farm one half mile east by Hilbert where she resided until her death. She leaves to mourn her sad departure a grief stricken husband and their three children, sorrowing mother, two brothers, two sisters and a large circle of sympathising friends. In her death her husband has lost a very laborious and affectionate companion, the little children a kind, loving mother and the community a noble friend. Her funeral was largely attended. The services were held in the Reformed Church of Potter, on May 8th, conducted by Rev. W. A. Arpke, of Chilton. Her remains were laid to rest in the Kliest cemetery. Peace to her ashes.

Russell Francis Barry, aged 19 years son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Barry, died at the home of his parents on Story street, Appleton on Sunday. The young mans was born in Chilton and spent his boyhood days here. For the past year he has been in poor health. He was a bright, energetic young man and his early death is a sad blow to his parents and those who knew him. The citizens of Chilton and vicinity sympathize with the bereft family.

Died of brain fever at the state hospital, at Oshkosh, March 17th 1882, {sic} Bela S. Bishop, aged 49 years and 10 months.

The deceased was born at Readsbora, Vt. And moved to Wisconsin with his parents when about 15 years of age. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. C., 10th Reg., Wis. Vol., and remained with it until a shot though the shoulder, while in battle, resulted in his discharge in June 1863. Since that time he has been engaged in several mill enterprises and was well and favorably known in business circles. Last Sept. he had a fall by stepping on a log where the bark was loose, which slipped off, causing him to strike his whole weight on his left side, breaking two ribs and producing his physician said, partial paralysis of the kidneys. From the injury he never fully recovered. But being unusually strong by nature, he exerted himself as soon as possible, to a greater degree than the average man would do in perfect health. In his attendance at the industrial convention at St. Louis, he was without sleep for three successive night and he only obtained one night's rest after his return, when family sickness kept him up two nights more. He soon began to show of undue brain excitement. Neglecting sleep and rest so much needed and continous exercise of both mind and body, his condition rapidly terminated in insanity. And the rumor that it was caused by christian science was die to the fact that as that peculiar theory had recently been brought to his notice, he discussed it while insane and it seemed to produce a determination to resist any medical treatment and to deny that he had any disease. There seemed to be no alternative but the asylum, where it was hoped skillful treatment would restore his health, but medical skill failed. His brother, W. R. Bishop, was with him when he died and on Saturday, the 19, he was laid beside his wife in the Neenah cemetery, and covered with choicest flowers, brought by a host of Wausaukee friends, many of whom, as employees had followed him from the old saw mill in Brillion to the new one in Wausaukee and thence tot he grave. A beautiful arched gateway covered with rare roses, white lillies and smaller fragrant flowers, with the "flowry gates ajar" was surmounted by a white dove with uplifted wings and holding in its beak the fruits of the harvest. At the base in purple immortelles, was his name. This has been photographed. Many Odd Fellows and Good Templars from several lodges were present, he being a member of both. Mr. Bishop leaves two little girls Ellarene and Beulah, who have been cared for by his niece, Miss Alice Bishop since the death of his wife, three years ago. The stereotyped words of praise which compose the ordinary obituary of good, bad and indifferent alike, are not needed to express the position he held in the hearts of a multitude of friends and acquaintances. In the memory of each and all, are treasured his acts and words of humanity, and kindness, which will never be effaced through life. What was truly said of him cannot be as truly said of all. He had not a known enemy in the world.

At Mobile Ala., May 10th, 1865, of Dysentry, Joseph Buhl, aged 42 years and 9 months.

The deceased was born in the Province of Breslau, Kingdom of Prussia. He imigrated to the United States in 1847, and settled in the town of Greenbush, Sheboygan County. From thence he removed in 1852, to Charlestown, in this county, where he has since resided, until duty impelled him to battle for the defence of the rights of his adopted country, in the war for the Union. He volunteered in the fore part of last March, and was immediately sent South to take part in the active operations against Mobile, then commenced, but the sudden change of climate, together with the privations and hardships of camp life soon brought on the disease which terminated his life.

Mr. Buhl was respected by all who knew him, and his loss will be deeply regretted by his numerous friends everywhere. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his death. The sympathies of the entire community are extended toward them in their bereavement.

Fatal Accident- On the 15th inst., a young man named W. J. Bloom, working in the woods in the Town of Harrison, near Menasha, was struck by a falling tree and his right leg was broken so badly that on Monday the 20th it had to be amputated by De. Lindel, but the injuries received by Bloom were so severe that he died on Wednesday. His remains passed through Chilton on Thursday, on their way to Sheboygan Falls for interment.

Sudden Death - On Saturday night last, John L Brewster, of Stockbridge, aged 73 years, retired to his bed, in apparently good health, and was found dead next morning. He was father in-law of Mr. Thomas Weeks, of Charlestown, and his unexpected decease is deeply regretted by a large circle of relatives and friends.

The Fond du Lac Commonwealth says that Capt. Upton Beall, son of Gov. Beall, formerly of Taycheedah, committed suicide, by taking morphine, on Friday night last, at the Fountain City House. He was under the influence of liquor at the time.

Sleep on Emma, and let not he anguish of our grief stricken hears disturb you peaceful repose. We would not arouse thee now, yet gladly, oh, how gladly would we have preserved the little spark that made you so precious to us.

By the death of Mrs. Olive S. Breed, which occurred at her home on Lincoln street on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, 1905, Chilton loses one of the earliest pioneers. Mrs Breed at the time of her death had attained the remarkable old age of 84 years, 9 months, and 5 days. She was a woman of wonderful constitution and never had many days of sickness until June last, when she was taken ill and obligated to keep to her bed. Previous to her last illness she was able to read without glasses and occupied her leisure time in making lace and doing other fancy work. Her illness came on suddenly and it would seem that the human machinery gave out all at once, her death being the result of old age. She was born in Pitcher, Chenango county, N. Y., Feb. 3, 1821, and in 1842 she was married to J. H. Breed, remaining at Pitcher until 1847, when they moved to Sharon, Pa., where they resided three years and then came to Wisconsin and located at Sheboygan Falls. Where she and her husband engaged in the hotel business. They remained there until1854 when they moved to Fond du Lac and spent a year. In 1855, when Chilton was but a hamlet with a few small cabins, they came here and conducted a tavern on the present site of the Hotel Chilton. They followed this business for a short time when Mr. Breed opened a store on the corner which the Gutheil block is located. This store her husband was conducting when the call for troops was made by the government in 1861, and he enlisted in Co. K. of the Fourth Wisconsin regiment going to the state camp. While there Mr. Breed became ill, was sent home and died on Sept. 8, 1861. Mrs. Breed, like many another pioneer, was left with little of this world's goods a family of four small children. Filled with that spirit that is invarialby shown by women who are made to rely on their own resources she went in work with a determination to provide a home and educate those in her care. In this she was successful and lived to see them grow up into respectful and useful citizens. During the early days of Chilton she was always among the first to offer her service to her struggling neighbors and her good work has been repeatedly spoken of by those who knew her in the early days. The last years of her life have been happy ones and free from care. While she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Fox, she has nearly every year travelled about visiting other members of her family and has enjoyed it as few women of her age would. Her entire life has been of usefulness, good deeds, always endeavoring to make those around her happy. The world has been made better by her example of self-denial and her reward in the world beyond is assured.

The funeral will take place today, Saturday, at ten o'clock with interment in the family lot in the Breed Cemetery.

She leaves one son, J. H. Breed, of Vastron, Wash., and three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Morgan, of Waupaca, Mrs. Helen Miller, of Groton, South Dakota, and Mrs. Frank Fox, of this city, to mourn the death of a true and devoted mother.

On Saturday afternoon June 17, Rudolph Bucher, a pioneer settler of this city passed away at the age of 74 years and 2 months. For the past year and a half he has been an invalid and has consulted eminent specialists of this country, but could gain no relief. He gradually grew worse until death ended his sufferings. Rudolph Bucher was born at Kloten, Canton, Zurick, Switzerland, April 17, 1825. He came to America in 1857, landing in New York where he remained a short time and then came to Chilton. The following year he purchased a farm in the town of Charlestown three miles south of this city and began to hew from the forest a home. He was a hard working, industrious man and by frugality, succeeding in becoming one of the leading farmers of this section. In 1884 he disposed of his farm and erected a home in the city where he resided until he answered the summons from above. He was a member of the Grand Army Post having served in the war of the rebellion, in co. G. of the 6th regiment. His funeral took place, Monday and he was buried with the military honors, the Grand Army Post of this city having charge of the remains. In his death his widow loses a kind and generous husband and the community and upright citizen.

T.J. Brown, infant son of Tim and Tami Brown, W3305 Stoney Brook Road, Chilton, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Milwaukee.

He was born July 19, 2002 in Sheboygan.

Survivors include his parents of rural Chilton; paternal grandmother: JoAnn Brown, Elkhart Lake; and maternal grandparents: Gerald and Mary Brunner, Greenbush.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at 6 p.m. at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Age 42, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. She was born August 6, 1959 in Chilton, daughter of Leander and Barbara {Dohr} Halbach. She married David O. Bonlander on April 14, 1978 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. Lorraine farmed with her husband in the Town of Charlestown and was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown.

Survivors include her husband, David; two children: David J. Bonlander, Fort Myers, Florida; Sarah Bonlander and special friend, Joe Eisch, Chilton; her father, Leander Halbach, Chilton; her mother, Barbara Halbach, Hilbert; her maternal grandfather, Alvin Dohr, Hilbert; three sisters: Karen Swonger, Chilton; Charlene {Tim} Giesen, Chilton; Mary {Andy} Schumacher, Mt. Calvary; three brothers: Gary {Deann} Halbach, Kurt {Michelle} Halbach and Danny {Barb} Halbach, all of Chilton.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton with the Rev. Gary New S.D.S. officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, 411 W. Main St., Chilton from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. A parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Lorraine Bonlander.

Age 83, formerly of Chilton, died Saturday February 16, 2002 at the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein. She was born November 4, 1918 in the Town of Eaton daughter of the late Nels and Katherine {Scharenbroch} Lotten. She married Clarence Koehler onMay 18, 1940 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1969. She later married Arthur 'Red' Buelow on June 8, 1978 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown, he preceded her in death in 1997.

She worked for eight years at the Calumet Medical Center as a director of volunteers. She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Christian Mothers, and the Amercan Legion Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking and was very involved in volunteer work.

She is survived by five children: Mary Lou Lotten, Flagstaff, Arizona; Arlene {John} Liska, Minong, Wisconsin; Gordy {Jean} Koehler, New London; Dale {Judy} Koehler, Chilton; Phyllis {Jim} Lawson, Naknek, Alaska; 10 grandchildren: Chris {Becky} Gams, Aaron {Karen} Gams, Jill Liska, Janelle Liska, Jamie and Jennifer Koehler, Pat, Jon, Casey Sattler and Terilyn Lawson; two great-grandchildren: Alexandra and Ryan Gams. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Kretsch.

Age 78, died Friday, February 22, 2002 at the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein. She was born January 11, 1924 in Story County, Iowa daughter of the late Edward and Bertha {Holm} Anderson. She married Donald Bates on March 30, 1945 in California. She worked for many years at the Chilton Metal Products. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Chilton, a member of the Moose Lodge, a member of the Pla-Mor Bowling League, and loved traveling the country with her husband Donald.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, Chilton; 10 children: David {Trudy} Bates, Chilton; Ralph {Theresa} Bates, Seymour; Mark {Linda} Bates, Neenah; Gordon {Erin} Bates, Shawano; Carol {Jerry} Hanna, Chilton; Jeffery {Cathy} Bates, Appleton; Deborah {Kurt} Bushman, Chilton; Jean {Randy} Doty, Sturgeon, Missouri; Ilo {Tim} Leary, Chilton; Amy {Lyle} Bangart, Chilton; 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Harvey, Joel and Burton Anderson and two sisters: Gazelle Wicks and Cornelia Erickson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday February 27, 2002 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Chilton with the Rev. H.P. Hilgendorf officiating. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, 411 W. Main Street in Chilton on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Leona T. Bishop, age 83, of Chilton Health and Rehabilitation Center, died on Saturday, ASugust 31, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.

She was born on September 6, 1918 in Stockbridge, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary {Schockmel} Halfmann. She married Russell H. Bishop on April 29, 1935. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1976.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the eagles Club #1288, Daughters of Isabella, and the Navy Mothers.

She is survived by six children, Robert Bishop of Wausau, Marvin {Deborah} Bishop of Milwaukee, Rosalind {Don} Greatens of Green Bay, Randy {Dorothy} Bishop of Chilton, Patrice Meadows of Prescott, Ariz., Barbara {Neil} Mrotek of Milwaukee, 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion {Wes} Koehn of Menasha. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ervin, and three sisters, Harriett, Lorena and Betty.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the Rev. Glen Sayers S.D.S. as officiant. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Lloyd H. Bailey, age 68, of 878 Utica Street in Chilton, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002 at his home.

He was born June 23, 1934 in the Town of Stockbridge, son of the late Edna Reinkober. Lloyd married Patricia Schmahl on May 5, 1957 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton. He graduated from Chilton High School in 1952 and worked for Lake-to-Lake Dairy in Kiel. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954. He returned home in 1956 to work at Hillside Cheese Factory, now known as Foremost Farms. Lloyd retired on Dec. 1, 2000 after 44 years as a licensed cheesemaker. He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and served as an Elder on the church council several times. He was also a member of the Chilton VFW Post #3153.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat; six children, Rose Ann {Michael} Bowlby of Sturgeon Bay, Michael {Connie} Bailey of Sherwood, 1st Lt. Mark {Dawn} Bailey of Colorado Springs, Colo., Christine {Lyle} VanAsten of Chilton, Thomas {Hally} Bailey of Sherwood and David {fiancée Amy Franklin} Bailey of East Lansing, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Sarah and Alexander Bowlby, Caitlin Bailey, Nicholas and Maria Edinger, Mitchell and Thana Oney, and Taylor Bailey.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept 4, 2002 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton, the Rev. Wayne Huebner as officiant. Burial followed in the Charlestown Union Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Lloyd H. Bailey.

The family would like to thank the Calumet Medical Center Hospice Program, their nurses' aides: Lynette Purnell, Lori Fagg, Lucy Meetz and Sandi Resch. They would also like to thank Linda Pippings and Bonnie Mortimer who was with Lloyd his last hours.

Braun - Anton Braun, a prominent and respected resident of the town of Brillion died at his home last Sunday at the age of 61 years. He was born in Manitowoc Co, in 1855 and came to Brillion town in 1885 from Whitelaw, having been married that year at Clarks Mills to Mary Klapatch. He was a member of St. Mary's congregation in our city and of the Catholic Knights. Decedent is survived by the bereaved wife and his aged mother who resides at Whitelaw; also three sons and three daughters. The sons are Anton at Greenleaf, Joseph and John at home. The daughters are Anna and Clara at home and Mrs Mary Brunmeyer of St. Nazianz. Likewise one brother, Peter of Brillion town, three step brothers, Frank, Lewis and John at Whitelaw and two sisters Mrs. Mary Wellner and Mrs. Anna Brandl also of Whitelaw. The funeral took place Wednesday from St Mary's church, Rev. Garthaus conducting the sad last rites. The pall bearers were George Schneider Sr., Syl Schneider, John Geiger, Adolph Ecker, A.F. Schwaller Sr., Adam Schmieder.

Mrs. Mary Braun, 77, died Friday evening at the St. Vincent's Hospital, Green Bay. She has been making her home for a number of years with her daughter, Mrs. Jos. Hlavachek. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the Hlavachek home and at 9:30 from St. Mary's church, Rev. Fr. Kraus officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were Joseph Scharenbroch, Christ Scharenbroch, Joseph Urban, John Miller, John Steinfest, and Chas. Pritzl. Mrs Braun, nee Mary Klabatsch, was born at Whitelaw, Nov 27, 1858. She was married to Anton Braun, who preceded her in death, in 1916. She was a member of the Christian Mothers' society here. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Halvachek, Mrs. Henry Brunimeier of St. Nazianz and Mrs. Anna Ahrens of Manitowoc; three sons, Anton of Whitelaw, Joseph of Brillion and John of Manitowoc; two brothers, Frank Klabatsch, Whitelaw and Jos Klabatsch of Maplewood; a sister, Francis Klabatsch, Whitelaw and 19 grandchildren. Peter Braun, 75, passed away at his home in the town of Brillion on Tuesday evening following a six week illness. He was born at town Meeme {Liberty} July 30, 1858 and was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Zipperer at Whitelaw, October 30, 1882. After their marriage the couple came to Brillion, where they settled on a farm being pioneer settlers here. They cleared land which at that time was still covered with forest, and built their own home. This farm located one half mile east of Brillion has been their home ever since. One year ago last October the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Braun is survived by his wife and six children, three sons, Chas., Peter Jr., and Anton, all of Brillion, and three daughters, Mrs. Louis Wolfinger, St John; Mrs. John Schuh, Brillion; and Mrs. Irvin Pick, Oconomowoc. There are also ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at ten o'clock at St. Mary's church, Rev. M. J. Kraus officiating. The Catholic Knights of which the deceased was a member will act as pall bearers, and interment will be in the Catholic {sic}

Mrs. Peter Braun, Sr., died at her home in this city on Tuesday, due to the infirmities of old age. Decedent was born at Whitelaw in 1863. In 1882 she was united in marriage to Peter Braun at Whitelaw and the couple moved to a farm near Brillion. After the death of her husband, she moved to the village. She is survived by three sons, Charles, Peter and Anton of Brillion; and three daughters, Mrs. John Schuh and Mrs. Agnes Wolfinger, both of Brillion; and Mrs. Anne Pick of Jefferson, Wis. There are eighteen grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister also survive.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow {Saturday} at 9:30 a.m. at the Luecker Funeral home, followed by services at St. Mary's church. Rev. Raymond Schauer will officiate. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society.

Charles Braun, 88, of Rt 2, Brillion, died last week Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services were Monday at Wieting Funeral Home and at St. Mary Catholic church, Brillion. The Rev. Ray Dowling officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Braun was born Sept 11, 1883, in the Town of Brillion, son of the late Peter and Theresa Zipperer Braun. He married Rose Fischer Oct 14, 1923, at Whitelaw. His wife preceded him in death May 11, 1968. He was a carpenter and later became engaged in farming. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic church and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include a son, Norbert, of Brillion; two daughters, Miss Dorothy Braun, of Brillion and Mrs. Frank {Rosalia} Krizek, of Manitowoc; a brother, Anton, of Brillion; two sisters, Mrs. John {Margaret} Schuh, of Brillion and Mrs. Erwin{Anna} Pick, of Jefferson; and seven grandchildren. A sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Wieting was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Charles {Rose} Braun of this city rural route, passed away at the Manitowoc county Hospital Saturday after a lingering illness. She was 75 years of age, being born in Whitelaw, December 14, 1892. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fischer. She wed Charles Braun on October 14, 1923, following which the couple farmed just east outside the city limits. The family are members of St. Mary Catholic church.

Surviving are the husband, two daughters, Dorothy and Mrs. Frank {Rosella } Krizek of Manitowoc, and a son Norbert of our city, Rt. 2. Six grandchildren survive also, and a brother Joe Fischer of Whitelaw.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, the REv. Leonard Woelfel, officiating. Burial took place in the parish cemetery. Wieting was in charge of arrangements.

Peter Braun, 81, Rt. 2, died last Thursday, September 22 at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.

Funeral services were at St. Mary Catholic Church, Brillion. The Rev. Leonard Woelfel officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Braun was born April 19, 1885, at Rt 2 Brillion, son of the late Peter and Theresa Zipperer Braun. He farmed all his life and was never married.

He is survived by two brothers, Charles and Anton, Rt. 2, Brillion, three sisters, Mrs. Louis Wolfinger, Rt 2 Brillion, Mrs. John Schuh, Brillion, and Mrs. Ervin Pick, Jefferson, Wis, and 18 nieces and nephews.

Chilton Accident Victim Summoned Thursday Morning

Chilton - Joseph Bittner, 56, injured in an automobile accident here on May 17, died Thursday morning at 4 o'clock in St. Elisabeth's hospital in Appleton.

He was born in the town of Chilton, December 25, 1882. He married Anna Moltor on August 29, 1916 in St. Martha's church Charlestown. The family had lived in Chilton since.

Survivors are the widow, one son, Eugene, one sister, Sr. M. Armelia and two brothers, John, of the town of Chilton and Robert, city. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the A.J. Peffer Funeral home, and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church, the Rev. H.E. Hunck officiating, with internment at St. Mary's cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. Six members of the society will act as pallbearers and the rest will attend services in a body.

Mrs. Irene Bowe, 72 of R1, Hilbert, died at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Heritage Nursing Home, Appleton.

Born August 10, 1898 to Mr. and Mrs. John Fuchs in Chilton, she lived most of her life in the Calumet County area.

She married Thomas Bowe, May 22, 1917 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chilton.

A member of St. Mary's Parish, Stockbridge, Mrs. Bowe was also a member of it's Christian Mothers Society.

She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Alois {Marion} Zatharenka, Milwaukee, Mrs. Ralph {Florence} Heimerl, R1 Hilbert, Mrs. Leroy {Arlene} Gemer, R3 Chilton, and Mrs. Edward {Doris} Kobryski, Phoenix, Arizona; four sons, Robert, Norman and Donald, all of R1 Hilbert and Thomas R1, Chilton; one brother, George Fox, Chilton and two sisters, Cecelia Fuchs, Redlands, California and Mrs. Ronald Price, R1, Hilbert; 32 grandchildren.

Thomas Andrew Bowe, Sr., 68, of R 1, Hilbert, was stricken fatally at 12:30 p.m. Friday while delivering a piece of farm equipment near Marytown in Fond du Lac County.

Mr. Bowe, president of the Bowe Manufacturing Co., in the Town of Stockbridge, suffered a heart attack on the Joseph Guhlig farm. He had delivered a wagon to the farm just before he was stricken.

He founded the company about 30 years ago. The firm manufactured wagons, choppers and other farm equipment.

Mr. Bowe was born September 24, 1893 in the Town of Stockbridge, the son of Henry and Mina {Weeks} Bowe and was married at Chilton May 22, 1917.

They lived in Milwaukee for 10 years immediately following their marriage and then returned to the Town of Stockbridge.

Surviving are his wife, Irene; four sons, Thomas, R 1, Chilton, and Robert, Donald and Norman, all of R 1, Hilbert; four daughters, Mrs. Alex Zacharenka, Milwaukee, Mrs. Ralph Heimerl, R. 4, Chilton, Mrs. Elroy Gerner, R. 3, Chilton and Mrs. Edward Kobrzyki, Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Richard and Clifford Bowe, both of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mrs. Inez Esser, California, and Mrs. John Fuchs and Mrs. Lawrence Pusching, both of Milwaukee, 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bowe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Stockbridge, the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Funeral services for George Baus, 85, retired Town of Forest farmer who died Saturday at the home his daughter, Mrs. Gerhardt Hinn, Route 1, will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. At the Lisowe funeral home and at 10 a.m. At St. Claudius church, St. Cloud, the Rev. Meinard Linder, O.F.M. Cap., officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Son of Martin and Lucy Sippel Baus, Mr. Baus was born Sept. 15, 1864, at Albany, N.Y. And was married Sept. 11, 1905, to Miss Louisa Gilles at Brothertown. Mr. Baus, who, since his retirement a number of years ago, had resided with his children, for the last year and one-half had lived at the Hinn home. Mrs. Baus died Jan. 4, 1948. Surviving are five children, Leo, Carl and Martin, Town of Forest, Mrs. Hinn and Mrs. Joseph Schneikert, Kiel, R.2, seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Nicholas Faber, city. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday morning at St. Claudius church in st. Cloud for George Baus, 85, who died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gerhart Hinn, R. 1, Fond du Lac. He was born September 15, 1864, in Albany, New York. He moved to Wisconsin as a youth and married Miss Louisa Gilles of Brothertown on September 11, 1905. Mrs. Baus died in January, 1948. The couple lived on their farm in the town of Forest until his retirement, and since have made theier home with their children. For the past year and one half he has lived with his daughter where he passed away. Survivors include three sons, Leo, cArl and Martin, all of the town of Forest; two daughter, Mrs. Gerhart Hinn, R. 1, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Joseph Schneikert, R. 2, Kiel; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nicholas Faber, Fond du Lac.

A sister, Mrs. Edward Steinmetz, Fond du Lac and seven grandchildren. A son, two brothers and three sisters preceded Mrs. Baus in death. Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Schneikert on last Sunday were notified of the death of the latter's mother, Mrs. George Baus of St. Cloud, who passed away early that morning at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, where she had been confined for six weeks. Mrs. Schneikert left for St. Cloud immediately. Burial took placed Wednesday mroning from the St. Claudius Church.

Joseph A. Baus, 65, of Marshfield died at 7:30 a.m. March 25, 2004, in the palliative care unit at Saint Joseph's Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Hansen Funeral Home. Burial will be in the McMillan Memorial Garden Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. He was born April 8, 1938, in Chippewa County. Joseph worked in the housekeeping department at Saint Joseph's Hospital until his retirement.

He is lovingly survived by his foster family, Linda, Jason and Brian {Last Name Omitted},all of Marshfield, Jean {Last Name Omitted}, Marshfield, and Rick.
Joseph was the son of Margaret Baus Schneikert.

Graveside services for John G. Baus, 46, Portland {Oregon}, were held on Tuesday January 6 at Mountain View Cemetery. Mr. Baus died on Thursday, January 1 at Oak Villa Care Center following a long illness. Services were under the direction of Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.
John was the son of Margaret Baus Schneikert.

New Holstein - {Special} - Funeral services for John Boockmeier, 77, who died in the town of Charlestown at 7:45 pm Thursday, will be held Monday at 2 pm in the Erbe-Hoffman Funeral Home here and at 2:30 pm at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Mr. Boockmeier had been ill two weeks.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the time of the funeral and the Rev A.G. Schmidt will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the New Holstein City Cemetery.

Mr. Boockmeier was born in the town of New Holstein September 15, 1859, and he was the son of Mr. And Mrs. Juergen Boockmeier. He married Miss Wilhelmina Fell {sic: last name is Sell} on April 11, 1885, and the couple purchased a farm two miles north of New Holstein where they have lived ever since.

Survivors are Mr. Boockmeier's widow; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Gisch {Pauline} of the town of Charlestown, and Mrs. Ford Smith {Mariele} of Chicago; five sons, Valentine of Milwaukee, Bruno and Clifford of Green Bay, Fillmore at home, and Ted of New Holstein; three sisters, Mrs. Gust. Thede of Chilton, Mrs. Anna Kreimann of Kiel, and Mrs. Dora Schaar of New Holstein; two brothers, Herman of Los Angeles, and Henry; and sixteen grandchildren. Three children died while infants.

Members of the New Holstein camp of the Modern Woodmen of America of which the deceased was a member, will attend the funeral rites in a body.

Frank G. Basler Rt. 1, Menasha

Age 69, died unexpectedly Friday evening at his home. He was born May 23, 1907 in rural Chilton, son of the late Frank and Mary Fochs Basler. He farmed on the homestead farm and was also employed for 17 years by the Brillion Iron Works, retiring seven years ago. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sherwood. He married the former Odelia Joas on June 21, 1932 in Stockbridge. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne {Janice} Wiedenhaupt, Kaukauna; a son, Alton, Neenah; and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sherwood, with Father Kenneth Frozena officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at Kapitzke Funeral Home, Hilbert, after 4 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 8:15 Monday evening.

Another of Calumet county’s pioneers has joined the silent majority. On Monday, July 15, Louis Phelps Blood died at the home of his son, Edwin, in the town of Stockbridge, at the advanced age of 86 years, 2 months and 11 days.

Mr. Blood was a native of Maine and was born in Sebec, that state, May 4, 1815. He spent his boyhood days in the vicinity of his native home and in 1841 came west and located in Ohio where he remained until 1848 and then came to Wisconsin, spending two years in Rock county and in 1850 moved onto what is now known as the Kroehnke farm in the town of Charlestown. He remained there until 1867 when he disposed of his farm and moved to Stockbridge where he resided until his death.

Mr. Blood was for a number of years prominently identified with the progress of the county. He was a man of few words but possessed a sound judgment and his advice was often sought by those who knew him. During his long residence in this county he made many devoted friends. He was ever ready to assist in every movement for the advancement of the country and took an active part in public doings during the pioneer days. He was buried on Wednesday. The remains were taken to Gravesville cemetery for interment. Rev. W. G. Otto conducted the services. He leaves six sons – Nathan L, Franklin, Seth, Almeran, Guy and Edwin, and one daughter – Mrs. Alfred Cook, to mourn his death.

Mrs. John Bargenquast passed away at her home Wednesday afternoon at 3:30, Nov. 7, 1911. She was 50 years, 3 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. Anna Beyer was born in the town of Russell on July 20th, 1861. Later coming to New Holstein she was united in marriage to John Bargenquast on Nov. 28, 1882. Theirs was a happy life, each living in perfect harmony with the other. In 1883 they moved onto the farm purchased by them. She is survived by a husband, five sons and two daughters, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Reformed church, of which deceased was a devout member. Here the sermon was preached by the pastor, and the choir rendered appropriate songs. A very large number of relatives and friends were present to pay respect to the memory of a truly Christian wife and mother. The Ladies Aid Society escorted the body from the church to the cemetery,w here the solemmn rites of the Reformed church were used for the interment. Those from away who attended the funeral were: Miss Lizzie Lang and Mrs. Henry Cliver of Marshfield, Miss Helen Erdman and Ed Bargenquast of Cedarburg, Mr. and Mrs. E. Schneider of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. J. Beyer, and Martin and Peter Beyer of Fond du Lac.

n.b. Anna Beyer is the daughter of Gerhard and Margaret Petri Beyer.

Funeral services for John Bargenquast who died at the home of his son Clarence in the Town of New Holstein at 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening were held Wednesday afternoon at the home at 2:00 p.m. Rev. A.G. Schmid officiated. Burial was made in New Holstein city cemetery. At the time of his death Mr. Bargenquast was 77 years of age. He had been ill since last November. He was born in Schleswig, Germany, March 12, 1856. In 1863, he came to America with his mother. A short residence was established in Chicago, after which they came to New Holstein. Mr. Bargenquast spent the remainder of his life in this vicinity growing up with the community. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Anna Beyer of the town of Russell. The couple lived on a farm in the town of New Holstein a few miles southwest of this city. His wife preceded him in death, November 11th, 1911. For the past 14 years he has resided with his son Clarence on the homestead. Surviving him are fives sons, John and Edward of Milwaukee, George of Oshkosh, Hugo in Athens, and Clarmence in the town of New Holstein, two daughters, Mrs. Edward Bahrs, town of New Holstein, Mrs. A.J.. Thiel, Chilton; one twin sister, Mrs. Ernst Schneider of Thorpe. There are 17 grandchildren.

Art Berrens, 723 Diane St., Chilton, Age 72, died on Monday, September 8, 1997 at his home. He was born on June 8, 1925 in Chilton, son of the late Edward and Lena {Sherer} Berrens. He married Mary Zorn on November 5, 1949, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton. Art served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He and his wife owned and operated the Berrens Bakery in Chilton for many years until retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, American Legion Post #125 of Chilton where he served as past commander, V. F. W. Post # 3153, where he was serving as present commander, Chilton Eagles Club #1288 of Chilton, and he served as an alderman on the Chilton City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, three daughters, Linda {Bruce} Sweetman, Howards Grove; Louise {Dan} Kastelic, Sheboygan; Lori {Fred} Brocker, Chilton; a son-in-law, Paul Roberts, Chilton; two granddaughters: Jessica Roberts and Leah Sweetman; three step-grandchildren: Michael, Minday and Stephanie Brocker; two sisters: Gert Melchoirs, Appleton; Catherine {Bill} Forstner, Chilton; three brothers: Pat Berrens, Chilton; Gene {Deloris} Berrens, Chilton; Robert Berrens, Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Claude and Victor Berrens.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 1997 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton, with the Rev. Gary New S. D. S. officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. on Thursday until the time of services. Claude Berrens, 59, Oshkosh, died today at home.

He was born April 16, 1927, in Chilton, the son of Edward and Nina Star Berrens. He married Charlotte M. Gercke Oct. 2, 1956, in Oshkosh.

Mr. Berrens was a baker for Berrens bakery, Chilton, for 22 years and later worked several years for Werich Used Cars, Oshkosh. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his widow; four brothers, Robert, Manitowoc, and Gene, Art and Edward Jr., all of Chilton; and two sisters, Catherine Fastner, Chilton, and Gertrude Melcher, Appleton.

Services will be Monday at 4 p.m.

Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, the Rev. Karl Buresch officiating, burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

Mrs. Connie Berrens, 21 E. Grand St., Chilton, age 60, died Sunday at the Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. She was born November 7, 1923 in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Olive Reinkober Baker. She was amarried {sic} July 4, 1942 to Charles Berrens, in Chilton.

She was a custodian at the Chilton Elementary School until December, 1983, when she retired due to ill health.

Mrs. Berrens was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton.

Survivors include five daughters; Mrs. Jules {Beverly} Van Gheem, De Pere; Mrs. Joe C. {Barbara} Schmitz, Kiel; Mrs. Le Roy {Mary} Meisenburg, Melone; Mrs. Michael {Margaret} Dietzen, Kimberly; and Mrs. John {Gail} Meyer, Marabelle; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Manfred {Virginia} Moritz, Kiel. She was preceded in death by her husband, January 8, 1978, and by a granddaughter.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton, with the Rev. Paul Brick officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Edward {Pat} Berrens, Sr., 74, of 301 East Main street, Chilton, died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday at the Calumet Memorial hospital. He had been ill one month.

Mr. Berrens was born in Chilton on Sept. 28, 1888, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Berrens. He had lived in Chilton all his life.

He attended St. Mary's Parochial school, Chilton. Now retired, he had been a press operator at the Aluminum Specialty company, Chilton, for many years.

In September of 1914 he married Lena Scherer. She died Sept. 10, 1944.

Survivors include six sons, Edward, Jr., Eugene, Arthur and Claude, Chilton, Victor, Appleton, and Robert, Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Melchiors, Appleton, and Mrs. Katherine Forstner, Chilton; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Peter, Manitowoc, Joseph, Appleton, and Carl, Chilton; and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Link, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Katherine Zechnister, Saukville.

Edward H. Berrens, 60 School St., Chilton, age 82, died on Monday, November 16, 1998, at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born July 26, 1916, in Stockbridge, son of the late Edward and Lena {Scherer} Berrens. Pat married Leona L. {Krebsbach} Zorn on October 4, 1947, at St. Joe. She preceded him in death on September 30, 1968. He served in the United States Army during World War II and worked at the Aluminum Specialty Company in Chilton until retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Chilton and also served as custodian there from 1978 until 1992. He is survived by six daughters, Debbie {Joe} Dotson, Chilton; Patty {Bernie} Geiser, Chilton; Sharon Zorn, Chilton; Shirley Twining, Neenah; Mary Berrens, Chilton; Deloris Berrens, Chilton; a son-in-law, Karl Bubolz, Reedsville; 24 grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Melchoirs, Appleton, and Katherine {Bill} Forstner, Chilton; two brothers, Gene {Deloris} Berrens, Chilton, and Robert Berrens, Manitowoc. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, three grandchildren, a great grandson and three brothers, Claude, Victor, and Art. John Berrens, 63, Chilton, ill for six months, died about 1:30 this morning at a Fond du Lac hospital where he had been confined for two weeks.

Berrens, a former Chilton alderman, was born Dec. 12, 1886, in Chilton and lived there all his life. He was a butcher. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Mary Catholic church, Chilton.

Survivors are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Elroy Starfeldt, Chilton; four brothers, Peter Berrens, Menasha, Joseph Berrens, Appleton, and Edward and Carl Berrens, Chilton; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Bostick, Fond du Lac, Mrs. Lloyd Link, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Anton Zechmeister, Saukville; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, after 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock on Sunday and Monday evenings.

Victor J. Berrens, 866 Valley Road, Menasha, age 67, died 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 1985 following a short illness. He was born May 6, 1918 in Chilton and following World War II where he served with the U. S. Marine Corp he moved to Appleton. Mr. Berrens had been employed by the Concrete Pipe Company for 25 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Lisa and James Kraebel, Menasha; Barbara Berrens, Town of Harrison; a son, John, Menasha; four grandchildren: Mindy, Robert, Randy and Christopher Berrens; five brothers and three sisters-in-law: Robert Berrens, Manitowoc; Patrick Berrens, Eugene and Dolores Berrens, Arthur and Mary Berrens all of Chilton; Claude and Charlotte Berrens, Oshkosh; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Gertrude Melchoir, Appleton; Kathryn and William Forsner, Chilton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Henry Berrens in 1976.

The complete funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 1985 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Stanley Brown officiating. Interment will in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. William L. Berrens, Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center, age 70, died Tuesday, October 19, 1993. William was born on June 8, 1923 in Sherwood, Wisconsin, son of the late Joseph Berrens, Sr. and Rose {Scherer} Berrens.

William married Alice Apitz at Waukegan, Illinois on May 4, 1953. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1987.

He worked at consolidated Papers, Inc. in Appleton and Wisconsin Rapids for 35 years, retiring in December of 1984.

William was a veteran of World War II, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and dining with his friends at the senior meals site.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda {Robert} Le Clair, Manitowoc; a son Bruce {Jean} Berrens, Burnsville, Minnesota; four grandchildren: Angela, Christopher, Corinna and Jessica, all of Burnsville, Minnesota. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn and Audrey; and by a brother, Joseph, Jr.

As requested by William, his body was cremated and there will be no visitation or service. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, WI 54911.

Alice A. Berrens, 1305 E. harriet, Appleton, age 57, died Monday, August 24, 1987, at Appleton Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born January 23, 1930 in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Julius and Anna C. {Falk} Apitz. She attended Kaukauna Public School. She was married to William Berrens on May 4, 1953 in Waukegan, Illinois; they resided in Appleton all of their married lives where Mrs. Berrens was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband William; a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Robert {Wanda} LeClair, Manitowoc; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Jean Berrens, Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren; two sisters; Mrs. Helen LoderBauer, Sherwood; and Mrs. Esther Loderbauer, Kaukauna; two brothers and sister-in-law: Julius and Ingeborg Apitz, Appleton; and Clifford and Virginia Apitz, Winter Haven, Florida.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 1987, at the Valley Funeral Home, with Rev. Willis Bloebow of the First English Lutheran Church, Appleton, Officiating. There will be no visitation preceding the service at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given according to the wishes of the family.

Peter T. Berrens, 650 Appleton St., Menasha, age 84, passed away Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs.Sylvester B. Zelinske, same address, after a 6 month illness. He was born November 14, 1880 in Chilton and has been a resident of Menasha since 1914. He was a member of St. Joseph Society, Chilton.

In addition to his daughter he is survived by one son, Cornelius, Menasha; two brothers, Joseph, Appleton; Carl, Chilton; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Link, Hartland, Wis.; Mrs. Anton Zeckmeister, Saukville, Wis.; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Menasha. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Joseph Berrens, 49, of 919 W. Brewster street, died about 11:30 Tuesday morning after a long illness.

Surviving are the widower; two daughters, Mrs. Louis Brum, Appleton, and Miss Audrey, at home; two sons, William and Joseph, Appleton; two brothers, Henry and William Scherer, Menasha; two sisters, Mrs. John Kersten, Kaukauna, and Mrs. Louis Cybulski, Gilman; and a grandchild.

Friends may call at the Ellenbecker Funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight and 8:30 Thursday night.

Mrs. Berrens was born July 6, 1900, at Stockbridge and lived in Appleton the last 12 years. She was a member of the Christian Mother's society of St. Therese church.

Fred Berrens, Who Was Injured at the Wolf Chair Factory Last Week, Died Monday.

Fred Berrens, the announcement of whose injuries at the Wolf Chair factory was made in our last issue, died from the effects at his home on Mill Street, about 10 o'clock last Sunday night. He was born in Chilton April 17, 1882, and was wedded about four years ago to Miss Minnie Borts, who survives him as do also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Berrens of Chilton, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Bostick, Heineman; Mrs. Christina Horth, Baraboo; John, Merrill; Peter, Edward, Joseph, Carl, Florence and Katie of Chilton.

The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at the German Reformed church, Rev. Beisser officiating. The local council N. F. L., of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body and interment was made in the city cemetery. Mr. Berrens was a young man of quiet demeanor and good character and his early departure from earthly spheres is cause for much regret.

Aloysius J. Bloch, Rt. 1, Kaukauna, Wis., age 60, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Sunday after a 3 year illness. He was born February 19, 1904 in Kaukauna. He was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company prior to his retirement in 1961. He was a member of Holy Cross Court and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mrs. Aloy Bloch {Bertha E. Kersten {Effa}}, Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, age 81, died Monday, October 23, 1995 at Parkside Care Center.

She was born on December 22, 1913 in Stockbridge, the daughter of the late John and Anna {Scherer} Kersten.

Bertha enjoyed bowling and sewing. She was a Brownie leader for many years. She loved to play cards with her grandchildren. She was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mill for 20 years.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children: Roberta and Francis Slomska, Weyauwega; David Bloch, Racine; Richard and Betty Bloch, Kaukauna; Rita and Charles Linzmeier, Menasha; John and Judy Bloch, St. Petersburg, Florida; Anna and James Beach, Stockbridge. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Dorothy Van Dyke, Kaukauna; Margaret and Orville Spaulding, Menasha; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Bloch, Kaukauna.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Aloy Bloch; and her second husband, Joe Effa; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Ed and Jane Kersten and Paul and Joan Kersten; a sister and a brother-in-law: Ceil and Clem Nabbefeld; two grandchildren: Robert Slomska and Cory A. Smith.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 1995 at the Fargo Funeral Home in Kaukauna with Father Paul Paider officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Kaukauna from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Mrs. Louis J. {Evelyn Berrens} Brum, 1519 W. Lawrence St., age 39, passed away Sunday at 3:30 a.m. after a 3 month illness. She was born August 27, 1925 in Chilton. Survivors include her husband; her father, Mr. Joseph Berrens, Sr., Appleton; two daughters, Kay and Lori; two sons, David and Mark, all at home; two brothers, Joseph Berrens, Jr., Town of Center and William, Appleton; one sister, Mrs. Donald {Audrey} Spaulding, Appleton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Monday where the parish and Christian Mothers rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

George H. Bargenquast, 1215 Shiocton St., New London, age 79, passed away Tuesday evening after a lingering illness. He was born November 26, 1886 in New Holstein {to John Peter and Anna Beyer Bargenquast} and lived in the New London area for the past 20 years. Mr. Bargenquast was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of New London. Survivors are his wife, Emma; two sons, Henry and Glenroy, both of Oshkosh; two brothers, Clarence, Fond du Lac and Hugo, Abbotsford; one sister, Mrs. Edward Bahrs, New Holstein. Also survived by seven step-children and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Cline and Hanson Funeral Home, New London with burial in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. Rev. Richard C. Schroeder will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday until time of services.

Sixth Street Woman Expires at Hospital. Mrs. Katherine Bargenquast, wife of George H. Bargenquast, 727 Sixth street, passed away at Mercy hospital this morning at 12:23 o’clock following a heart attack last Wednesday. She was born Aug. 13, 1892, in New Holstein and was 49 years of age. On July 2, 1912, she was married to George H. Bargenquast at Chilton. Since 1923 she had resided in Oshkosh, but previously had always been a resident of Calumet county. Besides the husband, she is survived by two sons, Henry and Glenroy, both of Oshkosh, one grandson, Henry George Bargenquast, two brothers and two sisters. John Williams, of Elkhart Lake, and Peter Williams, of Plymouth, and Mrs. Isador Ellenbecker, of Sheboygan, and Mrs. Edward Leider, of Waupaca. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Marquardt funeral home. The Rev. Douglas O. Anderson of the Tenth Street Methodist church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday afternoon and up to the time of the services. Interment will take place at the Lake View Memorial park. Mrs. Bargenquast had been employed at the Wisconsin Match Corporation.

Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Bargenquast, wife of George M. Bargenquast, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Marquardt funeral home. The Rev. Douglas O. Anderson of the Tenth Street Methodist church officiated. Mrs. J.A. Zellmer rendered vocal selections with Mrs. Florence Breaker playing the organ accompaniment. Pallbearers were Lester Westpahl, William Juedes, Harvey Sohm, Henry Meyer, Edward Behnke and George Ehrenberg. Interment took place at the Lake View Memorial park. Among the immediate relatives who attended the services were a brother, John Williams, and wife of Elkhart Lake; another brother, Peter Williams, and wife of Plymouth; a sister, Mrs. Isador Ellenbecker, and husband of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. Edward Liders, and husband of Waupaca, and other relatives from Milwaukee, New Holstein, Chilton, Athens and Sheboygan.

Beaver Dam - Emma E. Bargenquast, 93 years, 116 Lakecrest Drive, Beaver Dam, WI, died Friday, Nov. 10, 1995, at Beaver Dam Care Center. She was born in Rudolph, Wisconsin, Wood County, the daughter of Henry and Hattie Scott Spoehr. She married John Ruppel on August 27, 1917. He preceded her in death. She married George Bargenquast on July 7, 1944. He preceded her in death. {age}75, of Abbotsford, died at Memorial Nursing Home at Neillsville at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, January 19, He had been in poor health for the past two and one-half years before being taken to the nursing home on August 18. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic church at Abbotsford, of which he was a member. The Rev. Emil Hodnik officiated. Burial was in Abbotsford cemetery. Pallbearers were Arnold Laack, Ted Hoeft, Clarence Weller, Henry Ortmeier, Edward Thiede and Arnold Kallien. Mr. Bargenquast was born at New Holstein {to John Peter and Anna Beyer Bargenquast} on February 12, 1891. He was married to Ida Haensgen on November 25, 1913, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic church {sic} in New Holstein, moving to Milan in 1918. While there, Mr. Bargenquast was supervisor for the town of Johnson for many years. In 1944 they moved to Abbotsford, where he was employed by the village of Abbotsford and later worked for the Streckert Manufacturing Company after which he retired. Mr. Bargenquast was an avid sportsman and gardner. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Ralph and Elmer of Abbotsford; one daughter, Mrs. Edmund {Sadie} Hoffmann of Colby; one brother, Clarence, Fond du Lac; one sister, Mrs. Ed Bahrs, New Holstein; six grand children and nine great grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mrs. Ida Bargenquast, 88, of Abbotsford was buried in Abbotsford Cemetery Dec. 7 following services at St. Bernard’s Church officiated by the Rev. Emil Hodnik. Mrs. Bargenquast died Dec. 3 at Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home. The former Ida Haensgen was born Jan. 18, 1893, at Marytown in Fond du Lac County, to Mr. and Mrs. John Haensgen. She married Hugo Bargenquast Nov. 25, 1913, in New Holstein, where the couple farmed for five years. They then moved to the Milan area, where they farmed from 1918 until 1944, when they moved to Abbotsford. Mrs. Bargenquast was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and of its Ladies Aid Altar Society. Survivors include two sons, Ralph and Elmer, both of Abbotsford; one daughter, Mrs. Edmund {Sadie} Hoffman, Colby; six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 17, 1967, and by three brothers and three sisters, besides her parents.

Emma A. Bahrs, 94, Oshkosh, formerly of rural New Holstein, died Friday afternoon in Bethel Home where she had been a resident for three years. She was born April 28, 1893, in the town of New Holstein, to John and Anna {Beyer} Bargenquast. She married Edward Bahrs Nov. 18, 1913, in New Holstein. He died March 31, 1978. Mrs. Bahrs, who attended town of New Holstein schools, farmed in the town of New Holstein with her husband most of her life. They moved to Oshkosh in 1977. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, New Holstein, and its women’s guild. Surviving are one son, Lester, Oshkosh; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John’s United Church of Christ, New Holstein, the Rev. John Baumann officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established.

Adam Edward Bahrs, {age}, 85, of 1902 Grove St., Oshkosh, died early today at Mercy Medical Center. He was born Jan. 13, 1893, in New Holstein, the son of Louis and Barbara Williams Bahrs. He was married to Emma Bargenquast, Nov. 18, 1913, in New Holstein. Mr. Bahrs was educated in Kiel public schools, lived in Chilton for three years after his marriage, then located on a farm in the town of New Holstein, where he also operated a milk trucking service for 44 years. He moved to Oshkosh nine months ago. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, and was organizer and active member of Interdenominational Dartball League, both of New Holstein. Surviving are his widow; one son, Lester, Oshkosh; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, the Rev. Albert K. Borns officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 4 p.m. Monday, until 11 a.m. Tuesday, and then at the church from noon until the time of services.

Clarence A. Bargenquast, 83, a retired Town of New Holstein farmer and former Kiel resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1979, at Chilton Village Nursing Home where he resided since October of 1978. He was born June 15, 1896, in the Town of New Holstein, a son of the late John and Anna Beyer Bargenquast. He married Viola Daul on Sept. 15, 1917, at Marshfield. The couple lived in Oconomowoc until 1919 when they moved to a farm in the Town of New Holstein. His wife died on Sept. 20, 1963, and Mr. Bargenquast retired in 1964. On July 11, 1966, he married Viola Anhalt Williams in Neenah. They lived in Fond du Lac for one year and later in the Town of New Holstein and in Kiel from 1972 until he went to the nursing home. Mr. Bargenquast was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, St. Anna. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. June Zahn of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons Donald of Fond du Lac, Wallace of Sussex and Harold of Milwaukee; 16 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Bahrs of Oshkosh. Other survivors include a stepson, Mattie Williams of Route 2, New Holstein; six step-granchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in St. Anna. The Rev. Milton Seuss will officiate, and burial will follow in New Holstein Cemetery. Friends of Mr. Bargenquast may call after 4 p.m. today and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Mrs. Clarence Bargenquast, 66, of R. 1, New Holstein, died Friday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Sunday. She was born at Stratford, Wis., Jan. 10, 1897, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Daul, and was married at Marshfield to Clarence Bargenqauast Sept. 15, 1917. She had been a resident of New Holstein since her marriage. Surviving are her husband; three sons, Donald of Fond du Lac, Wallace of Lannon, Wis., and Harold of Milwaukee; a daughter, Mrs. Albert {June} Zahn, Sheboygan; two brothers, Charles Daul, Stratford, and Joseph Daul, Rhinelander; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Lieke, Park Falls, Mrs. Clara Ryan and Mrs. Ralph Ferry, both of Oconomowoc and Mrs. Frank Steinmetz, Marshfield; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Erbe-Hoffman Funeral Home, New Holstein, at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Lambert Scanlan of Holy Rosary Catholic church officiating. Burial was in New Holstein City Cemetery.

Viola Williams Bargenquast, 90, of Chilton Village Nursing Home, died at the nursing home Friday morning, Feb. 24, 1989. She was born in Elkhart Lake on March 16, 1898, a daughter of the late Charles and Ann {Laures} Anhalt. She married Joseph Williams on June 20, 1916, at St. Anna. He preceded her in death June 18, 1960. She then married Clarence Bargenquast on July 11, 1966, at St. Patrick’s Church, Menasha. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1979. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and a 50-year member of Catholic Knights, New Holstein. Survivors include one son, Mattie Williams, rural New Holstein; three step-sons, Donald, Wallace and Harold Bargenquast; one step-daughter, June Zahn; also a number of step-grandchildren; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Jerome; three brothers; and one sister. Funeral services were held Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. Burial was in Holy Rosary Cemetery. The Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Henry C. Behnke, 63, of Rt. 1, Cato, died Sunday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient 10 days after a coronary attack.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. The Rev. Samuel Kugler will officiate and burial will be in Brillion Cemetery.

Mr. Behnke was born June 1, 1904, of Rt. 2, Brillion, son of the late Fred and Ida Schultz Behnke Sr. He married Esther Reimer Dec. 4, 1924, at Reedsville Lutheran Church. His wife preceded him in death in 1953. He farmed in Brillion for 12 years and at that time moved to Rt. 1, Cato, where he farmed for 32 years and had just retired.

Survivors include three sons, five daughters, a brother, Herman of Brillion and five stepbrothers, Ervin, Robert and Milton Behnke of Brillion and Waldamar of Reedsville and Fred Schaeffer of Hilbert; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Ghurow of Brillion and Mrs. Laura Hartz of Hilbert; a step-sister, Mrs. Laura Hartz of Hilbert; a step-sister, Mrs. Milton Nitschke of Van Dyne, Wis., and 30 grandchildren. Two sons, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Death Sat. morning of Lena Bahrs, the 12-yr. old daughter of Friedrich Bahrs of Brillion, in the residence of Mr. H. Behrens here in Manitowoc. The deceased had been sent here by her parents to attend school, became ill a few days ago, and died here of a cerebral hemorrhage. Her body was sent to Brillion for burial.

Conrad Buhl, 82, of 119 Kilbourn St., West Bend, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness.

Born May 26, 1877, in Chilton, he remained there until 1915 when he moved to Brillion. In 1926 he moved to West Bend where he was employed by the city and leter the Pick Manufacturing Co. until his retirement in 1950.

He was married to Catherine Binsfield on May 1, 1900 in Chilton, and she passed away April 27, 1938.

Survivors are two sons, George of Seattle, Wash., and Fred of Milwaukee; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold {Hilda} Bellman and Martha of West Bend, and Mrs. Glen {Estelle} Patchin of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Daun and Mrs. Peter Geiser of Chilton, and Sister M. Camilla, O.S.F. of Chicago, Ill; one brother, Gustave Buhl of Chilton; and three half-brothers, Michael and George Schwarz of Chilton and Andrew Schwarz of Hilbert.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Francis Cabrini Church of West Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Schmidt Funeral Home at West Bend, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Cabrini Church. Father Edmund Haen, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral home until the time of services.

Gustav Buhl, 85, of 58 Oak St., Chilton, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient six weeks. He had been in ill health two months.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, and 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, where a solemn requiem Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Henry Schmitt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Buhl was born July 10, 1878 in the town of Charlestown, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Buhl Sr. Until 1920 he owned and operated a bakery at Chilton now known as the Everix Bakery, it having been sold to the Everix family. He was employed at Knauf and Tesch Co., Chilton, and the Johnson Hill Dept. Store, Chilton, until he retired in 1939. He married the former Magdalena Peters June 1, 1909 at St. Mary Church. She died Jan. 7, 1950. He was a member of St. Mary Church, Holy Name Society and St. Joseph Sick Benefit Society.

Surviving are three sons, Oliver of Milwaukee, Harold of Chilton, and Norbert of Menasha: a half-brother, Andrew Schwarz of Hilbert; three half-sisters Sister M. Camilla, O.S. F. of Cross Plains, Wis., Mrs. Joseph Daun of Sheboygan and Mrs. Peter Geiser of Chilton; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this Monday evening.

Death Friday, 12 Mar. in Rantoul, Calumet Co., of Mrs. Emilie Bessert, wife of Johann Bessert. The deceased was a daughter of Julius Schlei here and was 33 yrs. old. Pneumonia was the cause of death. She was married 16 Feb. 1889 to her late husband. They had 3 children, 2 of whom are living. She is also survived by her father and several sisters.

Burial was Mon. afternoon in the Rantoul Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Mrs. Emma Bunge, 91, fourth street, at Meiselwitz Funeral Home. The Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ officiated. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery.

Mrs. Bunge died early Monday at Calumet Memorial hospital, where she had been a patient for one week.

The former Emma Jens, she was born October 2, 1875, in the Town of New Holstein, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Jens. She was married December 21, 1895, to Herman Bunge of the Town of Rhine.

They lived in Kiel a short time before moving to farm in the Town of New Holstein. They retired in 1941 and returned to Kiel. Mr. Bunge died in 1951.

The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1945.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Marielle Ramminger, Kiel, and Mrs. Elmer Schneider, Plymouth; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three sons preceded her in death.

Mrs. John H. Burmahln, 78, Route 2, Kiel died unexpectedly last Wednesday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she had been a patient for three weeks.

The former Olivia Gruhle was born June 18, 1894 at Rockville, a daughter of the late William and Dora Stoll Gruhle. On January 1, 1927 she was married to Mr. Burmahln of Town of Schleswig.

The couple settled on the Burmahln homestead farm in the township which they operated until his retirement in 1959.

Mr. Burmahln died in June, 1960. Following his death she resided with a daughter and son-in-law on the farm.

Mrs. Burmahln was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, and the Marian Circle of the United Presbyterian Women.

Survivors include her daughter, three grandsons and a brother, Arthur H. Gruhle of Sheboygan.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, with the Reverend Russell R. Morgan, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Sheboygan, officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery.

Alphonse Aloysius Buechel, 82, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Calumet Medical Center.

He was born March 10, 1919 in the Town of Brothertown, son of the late Jacob and Regina Petrie Buechel. Alphonse married Theresa Heimann on Oct. 30, 1945 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Tank Destroyer Unit. He was wounded in action in Aachen, Germany, and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged.

Al farmed in the Jericho area and later worked at Carnation Co. in Chilton, Stadtmueller's Case Implement in Chilton, and Winkler Oil in Chilton before becoming a full-time mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho, Holy Trinity Choir for 54 years, Holy Trinity cemetery Committee Catholic Knights Branch #222, German American Club, and the Quinney Fishing Club. He was actively involved for many years in the Veterans of Foreign War Post #3153 and the VFW Firing Squad, Disabled American Veterans, and Eagles Club #1288.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; six children, Margaret {Bill} Feider of New Holstein, Paul {Pat} Buechel of Malone, Pat {John} Basler of Chilton, Donna {Allen} Karls of Chilton, Martin {Artie} Buechel of New Holstein, and Alan {Amy} Buechel of West Bend; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a sister Marcella {Alfred} Geiser of Chilton.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irmina Keuler.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m on Saturday, May 19 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho, with the Rev. Glen Sayers S.D.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at Wieting Fuenral Home, Chilton, from 3 to 8 p.m on Friday and then again on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. An Eagle prayer service and Catholic Knights Rosary will be held Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Regina Buechel, 76, formerly of 110 Ock St., Chilton, widow of Jacob, died Saturday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, after a lingering illness.

She had been a resident of Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, the past seven years.

The former Regina Petrie, she was born at St. Joe, {Fond du Lac County} Nov. 19, 1894, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Wirth Petrie.

She and Mr. Buechel were married May 30, 1916 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joe.

The couple farmed in the Town of Brothertown until moving to Chilton in 1956. Mr. Buechel died Jan. 25, 1962.

Mrs. Buechel was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Jericho.

Surviving are a son, Alphonse, on the family homestead, R. 2, Chilton; two daughters, Mrs. Ervin {Irmina} Keuler and Mrs. Alfred {Marcella} Geiser, both of Chilton; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, August of Mt. Calvary and Claude of New Holstein, and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Gilles of Malone and Mrs. Leona Schaefer of Fond du Lac.

Funeral services will be Wednesday with a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Jericho, the Rev. Kenneth Rogers, pastor, celebrant. Family rites will be at 10 a.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p..m Tuesday at the funeral home.

A parish vigil will be held there at 8 p.m Tuesday, followed by a vigil by the Christina Mothers Society at 8:30.

Buechel Rite Is Scheduled For Chilton. Heart Attack Is Fatal To Retired Farmer, Insurance Agent. Funeral services for Jacob Buechel, 67, Chilton, will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church, Chilton. The Rev. Henry Schmitt will officiate.

Mr. Buechel died at his home Thursday at 9 a.m. of a heart attack. He was born in the Town of Brothertown, May 27, 1894, the son of Mathias and Amalia Buechel. He farmed near Jeicho until 1956 when he retired and moved to Chilton. He was agent for the Mt. Calvary Mutual Insurance company for 31 years.

Mr. Buechel was a member of the Holy Name societies of Holy Trinity Catholic church, Jericho and St. Mary's Catholic church, Chilton. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Chilton. On May 30, 1916, he married Regina Petrie at St. Joseph's Catholic church, St. Joe.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Alphonse, Jericho; two daughters, Mrs. Ervin Kueler and Mrs. Alfred Geiser, both of Chilton; six brothers, John, Lincoln, Neb., Albert, Sacramento, Calif., Henry, Malone, Herbert, Lincoln Park, Mich., Alois, Chilton, and Gregory, DePere; three sisters, Mrs. Wiliam Krebsbach, Mrs. Norbert Wagner, and Mrs. Peter Nett, all of Chilton and 16 grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday until the time of services. Burial will be in Holy Trinity cemetery, Jericho.

Arthur Bub, 44, proprietor of the former Ortlieb hall and saloon about ten years ago, died at the Mayo Bros. hospital in Rochester, Minn., Wednesday evening, following an operation. His body arrived at the Meiselwitz Undertaking parlors Friday. Becoming suddenly ill while on his way to Canada with his two sons for a visit, Mr. Bub was taken to Rochester for an examination. An operation was deemed advisable, but his condition was so serious that he did not recover. Mr. Bub was born on a farm in the town of Rhine near Elkhart Lake April 27, 1882. In 1909 he was married to Miss Selma Beyer of Milwaukee. The couple lived in Plymouth for a few years, then moved to Millhome, and later came to Kiel, where Mr. Bub operated the former Ortlieb place. After remaining in Kiel for about three years, they moved to a farm southwest of New Holstein. Here Mr. Bub held an auction early this spring, and then left with his sons on the trip to Canada which he was unable to complete. Mrs. Bub preceded him in death in July, 1924. Mr. Bub is survived by two sons, his mother, Mrs. Sara Bub of Sheboygan; three sisters, and four brothers. The funeral was held from the home of his brother at Millhome Monday with services at the St. John's Evangelical church, Elkhart Lake at 2 p.m. The Rev. F. W. Zeh officiated, and burial was made in the Elkhart Lake cemetery.

Raymond J. Blatz, 64, R.1, Chilton, died this morning at his home after a brief illness. He was born Mar. 31, 1912 in Dotyville, son of the late Joseph and Helena Schneider Blatz. On April 28, 1936 h married Loretta Birschbach in St. Peter. The couple farmed in rural Chilton. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Stockbridge. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Rita) Weber, and Mrs. Gerald (Nina) Bord, both of Mt. Calvary; three sons, Joseph, John, R.1, Chilton, and Ralph, Chilton; a brother, LeRoy, Fond du Lac; a stepbrother Edwin, Fond du Lac; a sister, Mrs. James Backmore, Eden; a stepsister, Mrs. Alvina Reed, Chicago, and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, two stepbrothers and a stepsister. A funeral Mass will be offered Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Koehne, pastor, the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home, Stockbridge, after 3 p.m. Wednesday. A parish vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alvina Blanck, 88, a resident of the Villa Loretta Nursing Home, Mt. Calvary, for the past six years and formerly of St. Anna, died at the nursing home on Thursday afternoon, May 9, 1996.

She was born Oct. 21, 1907 at Marytown, a daughter of the late John and Christina Guelig Schoenborn. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school in Marytown and was married to Benjamin Blanck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

After their marriage, the couple farmed near Parnell for four years, before moving to the St. Anna area, where they farmed for many years. Ben died in 1963.

Alvina was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in St. Anna and was a former member of the Christian Mother’s Society of the church.

Mrs. Frank Boll, 74, of Charlesburg died suddenly at 11:10 a.m. Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Keuler.
