Daniel and Hannah Candler are the progenitors of most* American Candlers.

The earliest documented evidence of their presence in the Colonies dates from the 1750’s at South River Settlement - present-day Lynchburg, VA. There is good circumstantial evidence that they were there from the late 1740’s.

*Daniel Candler was not the earliest Candler to come to Colonial America nor the first in Virginia
