A Guide to the PROPERTY OWNERS

In the Township of

Franklin,

CARBON COUNTY, pa.

In

1875

No street names are given in the Beers Atlas for the various roads in the township.  Most of these roads were rural at the time and remain rural today.  Furthermore, the township is not divided into Districts, as are several of the other rural townships in Carbon Co.  This makes it very difficult to pin down where the property owner shown below is actually located on the 1875 map.  Hey, but then no one said genealogical research was going to be easy!

The most populated part of the township is that section bordering the borough of Weissport.  Known as East Weissport, a detailed map of this part of Franklin Twp. appears elsewhere.  A few of the names in this part of the township appear on both maps.  The northern part of East Weissport was also known as North Weissport as well as Rickertsville.

Another distinct section of the township, not noted on the map is the village of Long Run.  On the map, this section starts in the NW corner of the township and follows the road eastward.  Schwab, Cunkle, Arner and Fisher are the families found there.  The Cunkle name is more commonly spelled “Kunkle”.
