A Guide to the PROPERTY OWNERS

Of

Towamensing Twp.

IN

CARBON COUNTY

The township of Towamensing (sometimes called Upper Towamensing) to this day remains rural, mainly comprised of hilly farmland and forest.  With the Pocono Mountain forming the northern border, numerous springs rise up in the township and the area is dotted with ponds and small lakes.  In the 1950s the Wild Creek Dam & Reservoir was built within District 5, flooding much of that valley.  In the 1960s, the Pohopoco Creek (shown in the 1875 map as Big Creek) had the much larger Beltzville Dam constructed in nearby Franklin Twp., with most of the lake lying within Towamensing.  This flooded the bottomland of districts 3 & 4, essentially cutting the township into two sections.
