First Tidwell Line

My grandfather John Ed(d) Tidwell was born 09 Mar 1890 in Meriwether County, Georgia. John was one of six children born to William Porter Tidwell, Jr. and Mary Ella Argroves.

John married Bertha Inettie Roberts 16 Jul 1911 in Meriwether County, Georgia. John was a farmer. At the age of 71, John had a stroke that took his life. His wife Bertha lived for 31 years after John's death. She died in 1993 at the age of 99.

John's father, William Porter Tidwell, Jr. was the son of William Porter Tidwell Sr. and Mary (Polly) Louise Kempson. William Porter Tidwell, Sr.  died while enlisted as a confederate soldier during the Civil War. His widow, Mary (Polly) Louise Kempson then married Marcellous Washington. Marcellous Washington was the only father that William Porter Tidwell, Jr would ever know.

It is said that Benjamin Tidwell, Jr. and Hannah Permelia Byram are the parents of William Porter Tidwell, Sr.
Parents of Benjamin Tidwell, Jr. are Benjamin Tidwell and Mildred E. Grimes.

My Second Tidwell Line

My great-grandmother, Mary Caroline Tidwell was born 17 Mar 1876 in Meriwether County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Simeon Earl Tidwell and Mary Candice Thompson. Mary Caroline married James Jacob Roberts 28 Dec 1893 in Meriwether County, Georgia.  The first-born child of Mary Caroline Tidwell and James Jacob Roberts was Bertha Inettie Roberts. Bertha Inettie Roberts married John Ed(d) Tidwell (above) in 1911.

Simeon Earl Tidwell was born Dec 1839 in Georgia and died Aug 1902 in Meriwether County, Georgia.  Simeon was the son of Uriah Tidwell and Rachel Brown.

Uriah Tidwell was the son of Benjamin Tidwell and Mildred E. Grimes. Uriah Tidwell, great grandfather to Bertha Inettie Roberts was the brother of Benjamin Tidwell, Jr. who was the great great grandfather of John Ed(d) Tidwell, husband of Bertha Inettie Roberts.

My grandparents never had any idea that they were third cousins.
