Allen W. Argroves enlisted on July 8, 1861 in Griffin, Georgia. His rank at the time of enlistment was
Private. He was a member of Company B, of the Georgia 13th Infantry Regiment, Meriwether
Volunteers. Allen was killed at Winchester, Virginia on August 18, 1864. His place of burial is
unknown at this time.

Family lore states that when Allen's older brother Mathias was killed earlier in the war, Allen brought
his body back to his mother in Georgia for burial and then went back to continue to fight. When Allen
was later killed in battle there was no one left to return his remains to Georgia.
Mathias M. Argroves enlisted on July 8, 1861 in Griffin, Georgia. His rank at the time of enlistment was
Private. He was a member of Company B, (Meriwether Volunteers) of the Georgia 13th Infantry
Regiment. There is some discrepancy as to the location and date of the death of Mathias.

The Roster of Confederate Soldiers states that Mathias was killed at Crampton's Gap, Maryland on
September 14, 1862. However, the military records from the National Archives state that Mathias died
from disease on December 1or December 6, 1861 at Red Sulphur Springs. My grandmother, Bertha
Inettie Roberts Tidwell who was married to the grandson of Mathias said that Mathias is buried at Red
Oak Creek which is a creek in Meriwether County, Georgia. There is also a Red Oak Creek cemetery
and church in Meriwether County, Georgia.
Daniel / Danil Farr was a member of Company C, 14th Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery also known as
Montgomery's Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery. His rank at enlistment was Private.
Franklin Farr was a member of Company B, 14th Alabama Infantry. His rank at enlistment was Private.
Isaac Farr was a member of Company C, 14th Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery also known as
Montgomery's Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery. His rank at enlistment was Private.
Isaac, Franklin and Daniel /Danil were brothers. Sons of Jeremiah Farr and
Nancy Strickland Farr of Chambers County, Alabama
Allen W. and Mathias M. Argroves were brothers, sons of Allen Argroves and Mary/Martha Miller Argroves
James Edman / Edmond Feltman enlisted on September 10, 1861. He was a member of Company
E, 28th Georgia Infantry regiment known as the Confederate Invincibles. In 1860 James was living
in the home of the parents of the above Mathias and Allen Argroves. Mathias and Allen were
both married by the 1860 census and were living in their own homes. James Edman / Edmond
married the widow of Mathias Argroves, Joicy Rogers Argroves, after the death of Mathias. They
married while James Edman / was still a soldier. James Edman/ Edmond surrendered at
Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.
Abraham George Washington Foster was a member of Company K, 56th Georgia Infantry
Regiment. He enlisted as a Private on May 12, 1862 while he was a resident of Heard County,
Georgia. Abraham G. W. was detailed to make wagons at Columbus, Georgia and surrendered in
Columbus, Georgia in April 1865.
Benjamin George Washington Kempson enlisted as a private in Company D, 8th Regiment of the
Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Northern Virginia on January 1, 1864. He was a resident of
Meriwether County, Georgia. He surrendered at Appamatox, Virginia on April 9, 1865.
George Albert Kempson enlisted on March 4, 1862. He was a Private in Company F, 41st
Regiment of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Virginia. ( Howard Infantry) He was a
resident of Meriwether County, Georgia. George Albert surrendered on April 26. 1865 at
Greensboro, North Carolina.
Alexander Hamilton McCarter enlisted on February 18, 1864. He was a Private in Company B, 37th
Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee. He was a resident of Muscogee County,
Georgia at the time of enlistment. He surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.
John C. McCarter enlisted on July 12, 1861. He was a Private in Company B, 37th Regiment,
Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee. He was a resident of Muscogee County, Georgia at
the time of enlistment. He surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.
Bird / Byrd Roberts enlisted on March 4, 1862. He was a Private in Company F, 41st Georgia
Infantry Regiment. Bird / Byrd was killed on June 17, 1862 in Lauderdale, MS.
George M. Roberts enlisted on July 8, 1861. He enllisted as a Private in Company b, 13th Georgia
Infantry Regiment. George was wounded and captured at Winchester, Virginia September 19,
1864. He was paroled for exchange at West Buildings USA General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland
and sent to James River, Virginia in February 1865.

James K. Polk Tidwell enlisted February 20, 1863. He was a Private in Company E, 28th Georgia
Infantry Regiment. The roll for December 31, 1863 shows him present and is the last on file. There
is no further record.

Littleberry Tidwell enlisted on May 8, 1862. He was a resident of Meriwether County. He was a
private in Company F, 55th Georgia Infantry Regiment. He transferred on March 1, 1864 to
Company A. He was on detached service at Andersonville, Georgia with Company A. He detached
from this regiment in August 1864.


The men below are Civil War soldiers from my family. Some are direct
ancestors, some are uncles, some are cousins and others are related by
marriage. They all fought for the South, for the only way of life they
knew. I am extremely proud that they believed in anything enough to
lay down their lives!

1835-1909 Allen enlisted March 4, 1862 in Newnan, Georgia at the age of 24. He received bounty
pay of $50.00 April 17. 1862. He was present on roll March - August of 1862. Allen was absent on
roll September & October 1862 from wounds he recieved at Big Hill, Kentucky. On sick furlow at
Rocky Mount, Meriwether County, Georgia. He was then present on roll from Novemebr 1862 thru
February 1863. He is lilsted as "Foragemaster for Regiment".

Reuben Phelps enlisted March 4, 1862 at Newnan, Georgia. He was 38 years old.He received
bounty pay of 450.00 on April 17, 1862. He was present on roll March - December 1862. January -
February 1863 he is listed on roll, but not listed as presnt or absent. November - December 1863 he
is listed as present. November - December 1864 he is listed as absent. reuben was wounded at the
Battle of Resaca, May 14, 1864. He had as leg amputed in Atlanta on May 16, 1864. He was sent to
Virginia for treatment. He was listed on register of C.S.A. General Hospital at Charlottesville,
Virginia, admitted October 21, 1864. Application for artificial limb, October 17, 1864.
Little Berry Tidwell
Simeon E. Tidwell claimed residence in Meriwether County, Georgia. He enlisted 10 September
1861 at Camp Stephens, Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. He enlisted as a private. He was about
24 years old when he enlisted. He served Georgia E. Co. 28th Infantry Regiment, Georgia
Volunteer Infantry, "Confederate Invincibles". Simeon surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina
on 26 April 1865, with his unit.
Simeon was a teamster during the war.
